I recently visited Café Van Houtte at 1001 Bernard Ave, Montreal, Quebec H2V 1T9, and wow, what an incredibly cool place! ✨ The barista was absolutely superb – so friendly, caring, and truly professional. I was incredibly impressed with the service; it was 1000% perfect! It's rare to experience such genuine hospitality. 😊💖 They have a wide variety of pastries, so there's definitely something for everyone to choose from, from muffins to cookies and croissants. 🥐🍪🧁 The coffee itself is invigorating, vibrant, and delicious, exactly what I look for in a great cup. ☕ The interior, typical for these kinds of coffee shops, is small but very interesting. You can really tell that the staff takes great care of their workplace; it feels well-maintained and inviting. 🛋️🪴 There's definitely a super special something about this place, and I think it's the outstanding service and their unique approach to customer care. They truly made my day! Thank you for the great mood, you guys are awesome! I highly recommend Café Van Houtte. 👍

You can get a good sense of a place based on how they treat people. I am more than 7 months pregnant, and as you know pregnant people often need to go to the restroom. I asked to use the bathroom today at Van Houtte on Bernard and they told me no, only for clients! Honestly avoid this place and favor other cafes that adopt a more human approach. Shame on them.

Edit: While I thank the owner for responding to my review, my husband was with me that day and he told the person in charge that I was pregnant so the assertion that the place is friendly to pregnant people is blatantly false (plus at 7 months I did clearly show).

Evitez le Van Houtte sur Bernard (pres de Parc) car ils sont vraiment honteux. On m'as refuse l'acces aux toilettes (reserve seulement aux clients disent-ils) et je suis plus de 7 mois enceinte. Franchement! Heureusement qu'il y a d'autres etablissements humains dans le quartier.

Addentum: Merci au proprietaire de repondre a ma critique. Je voulais cependant lui rappeller que mon mari etait avec moi ce jour la et lui a clairement dit que j'etais enceinte donc la declaration que le cafe ne refuse pas les femmes enceintes n'est pas correcte (de plus a 7 mois ca se voyait...

I’m writing this review a while after my visit, but the experience has stuck with me—and that says a lot. I’ve enjoyed many Café Van Houtte lattes over the years, so when I was switching parking during an event and noticed a Van Houtte location on Bernard Street in Montreal, I decided to stop in.

What made this visit stand out wasn’t just the quality of the coffee (which was excellent), but the way it was served. I ordered a café latte, and not only was it made with care and attention, but the taste was noticeably better than expected—even for a brand I already liked. The coffee was rich, smooth, and perfectly balanced.

A special shout-out to Ellie, the gentleman (owner) who served me. He went out of his way to ensure the drink was properly prepared and didn’t skimp on the espresso. I appreciated the attention to detail and the genuine effort to make it right.

It was a small moment, but it left a lasting impression. Thank you, Ellie, for the great service and an even better latte!

J’écris cet avis un bon moment après ma visite, mais l’expérience m’est restée en tête — et ça veut tout dire. J’ai bu de nombreux lattes de Van Houtte au fil des années, alors quand j’ai vu un Café Van Houtte sur la rue Bernard à Montréal en changeant de stationnement lors d’un événement, j’ai décidé d’y faire un arrêt.

Ce qui a rendu cette visite spéciale, ce n’est pas seulement la qualité du café (qui était excellente), mais aussi la façon dont il m’a été servi. J’ai commandé un café latté, et non seulement il a été préparé avec soin et attention, mais le goût était exceptionnel, même pour quelqu’un qui connaît bien la marque. Le café était riche, bien dosé, parfaitement équilibré.

Je tiens à souligner le service d’Ellie, le monsieur qui m’a servi. Il s’est vraiment assuré que mon latté soit préparé correctement, sans lésiner sur la dose de caféine. J’ai apprécié son souci du détail et son désir sincère de bien faire les choses.

Un petit moment, mais qui m’a laissé une impression durable. Merci Ellie pour l’excellent service et ce délicieux latté...
