I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Curry's Restaurant on April 8, 2016!
I booked a reservation for a party of 9, to celebrate my birthday. I was a bit apprehensive, because about half my party are not very adventurous people and had never tried Indian cuisine before, and I wanted them to have a good experience.
I had never been to Curry's before, and saw the online reviews for Curry's are quite mixed, but, based on the reviews, none of the other Indian restaurants in London seemed to be outstanding either, so I chose Curry's because it looked like they had the best decor, even if the prices were a bit more than the competition. I am glad I chose Curry's!
My party was promptly seated and well-taken care of the whole evening. Both our host and server were very friendly and helpful, explained the menu to our party and answered any questions my guests had. We ordered the group special on the back page, roughly $26 per person, which included complimentary papadums (like a thin wafer, they were delicious), large samosas and onion bhaji (a sort of onion ball) for appetizers, fresh naan and garlic naan, pilao(rice) and vegetable pilao, one main dish per person, sauces and condiments for everything including chutneys, and a variety of East Indian candies to aid digestion at the end.
Everything was delicious, and even my pickiest eaters enjoyed the food! One or two of the dishes were a little different than what I've had at other places in the past, in terms of flavours and colours, but I found everything to be flavourful and very enjoyable. I thought Curry's offered a good selection and their food was tasty. All my guests, including those who are experienced with Indian food and the first-timers, had a great experience. We all walked away stuffed, and I thought the price was fitting for the quantity and quality of the food.
To top it off, the decor of the restaurant helps create a fun dining experience, and the staff were also hospitable in accommodating a friend's request - she had brought specially made cupcakes with her, and asked if they could be served at the end of our meal. Our server not only brought them out with the sparklers we had brought, but also led us in a rousing chorus of Happy Birthday. They didn't have to do this, and I think they went above and beyond by doing so.
Thank you Curry's for a wonderful experience! I would dine here again, and recommend...
Read more"Family owned business takes place in a wooden house, themed by Hindu Indian style full of brilliant contrast colors." The owners claim that it's a good place to dine-in if you are looking for a quiet romantic experience, but for me it wasn't! Restaurant's location was easy for me to find and parking was a piece of cake. Once I entered I felt that seating layouts of the dining room should be improved, since tables are quite close to each other, separated by a small transparent black chiffon curtain I could hear other guest's conversation. Stuff where not that professional she doesn't know what has to be done, for examples: she wasn't familiar with menu's special, she didn't give me much attention and she took too long to ask me about my order. I believe that waiting time was very long in comparison to the size of the restaurant and number of customers, as I waited for more than hour for mere two entree's and one appetizer. Since I am conversant with Indian cuisine, I could rate their dishes as very good, they are using a good selection of Indian spices and sauces, however, the dish was very poor as they don't serve it with rice or French fries, thus forces you to order them separately and of course pay more. Soft drink was awful, they served it in stainless steel cup which was filled up to only two third without ice and no refills. Badly, they don't offer a children's menu, so if you are accompanying your little ones then you have to order an adult meal. The restaurant was not that much clean, waitress dust the table by her hand, clean dirty tables by pouring hot water from kitchen kettle then dry it with a dry cloth was under her hand, washroom was not very hygienic. Finally at the time of payment, the waitress added 15% to the receipt as what they call it "gratuity. I don't know how did the evaluated herself and added that automatically to the bill in a impressing way that you couldn't ask her to take it off, moreover, the credit card machine asked me if I would like to pay tips! That was CREEPY. Overall, I consider it costly in comparison to the service, location food quantity...
Read moreI wouldnt recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants to have Indian food, especially for the one's who are trying Indian food for the first time. If you eat here, you will never ever know what authentic Indian food is. Like most other cuisines, Indian food is also enjoyed in all parts of the world but restaurants like Curry's are spoiling it.
I found only this as the closest during my stay this summer. We read the reviews (most of them now appears fake) and decided to give it a shot. the ambiance is good (don't deny this) and we were welcomed with hospitality to select a table of our choice (hence the one star). we took the outside patio which eventually we noticed wasn't very clean. Our keeper was very slow (not her fault) I only saw her along with one other keeper who were taking care of pretty much all the tables but after ~20 mins we ordered a Chicken Tandoori - appetizer which is when the keeper started pushing other menu appetizer items in the form of recommendation and also started pushing to order the entrees. We were adamant of not changing our order hence she had no other choice but to place the order. While the order is getting made, we think why would somebody push so hard in ordering something else and push even harder to order entrees at the same time, soon after we knew WHY. The order came in, looking at it we realized something unexpected has arrived. The chicken was boiled with a couple indian spices sprinkled on top along with a lot of food color. Tandoori is usually red/orange and our order looked like they emptied the whole color bottle on it. I don't want to even talk about how it tasted coz it brings back the horrible memory ;-) That was it, we realized why were we pushed 1) to change our appetizer and 2) order entree at once.
We tasted a bite of the chicken and immediately called for check. That's it, after that we ran out of there to a Chipotle near...
