I don't post negative reviews often but I want to share my views in hopes that it'll help others. The food was fine - nothing to complain about, and that means a lot coming from someone born and raised in Korea! My issue resides with the server. It's a small restaurant so there was a single person managing the floor (greeting/ taking orders/ cleaning up, etc) and oh boy, did they hire the wrong person! He was curt in greeting us, no smiles. We asked politely if we could sit in the corner because we had a child with us, to which he replied an abrupt "no". Awkward silence ensued. We just smiled it off, thinking we mistook his tone as unwelcoming. After awhile we ordered our food and when it came, we noticed that he did not even set the table for 3 people as requested (the 5 yo doesn't count as a person?) when most restaurants would actually go the extra mile to bring children utensils. Nope. We asked for scissors so we could cut the food smaller. He looked at us like we were crazy. He didn't even offer to bring a knife instead. Nothing. A simple "sorry" would have sufficed. Walking out of the restaurant, on our first visit to beautiful Parksville, his curt, dismissive and unwelcoming attitude left a bad taste in our mouths that outlasted all our good experiences there. Read moreComing from a Korean myself, I have to say this place probably has some of the best tasting Korean food I've ever really had on the Island... ever!! Great menu, Service was fantastic, the server at the front was lovely kind & generous even though I arrived over 30 minutes late to pickup my order due to being kept at work!! Even tossed up an order of side spring rolls on the house!! :) Recommended dishes are their rice bowls, a la carte items and Tang-Su-Yuk (a personal favourite of mine served with sweet and sour style sauce). VERY happy with how great of an experience this restaurant turned out to be for us from only a couple visits. Ecstatic now there's a real good place serving Korean food nearby. We will 100% be back for more. HIGHLY recommend if you are into trying Korean...
Read moreOur first time @ Dosirak for a Korean meal but will not be our last!. We chose the Seoul Combo box (beef Bulgogi) and the Parksville Combo (fried chicken) so we could sample the side dishes. The soup starter was lukewarm, could have been hotter, tasted similar to miso. The meals come nicely presented in a bento box and looks appealing. The bulgogi and fried chicken were both nicely seasoned and had some veggies in the mix. Generous serving of japchae. Spring rolls are small and nicely crisped. Salad mix was spinach, arugula and cherry tomato with dsg. Bean sprout salad was a good palate refresher. The servings were well proportioned. Was a pleasant meal. Eating area was clean, people were continuously arriving for takeout. Next time we plan to try a plate...
