In my youth, I often traveled down to Saint viateur just for a taste of Arahova Souvlaki’s world-class souvlaki wraps. Recently, I decided to visit the takeout counter of their West island location, breaking with my long-standing tradition to try something new: the Arahova Poutine with chicken gyro. Let me tell you, this was a fantastic decision!
The poutine itself was a revelation—Arahova takes a classic and elevates it. The home-cut fries were exactly what you want from poutine: golden, crispy, and thick enough to hold their own under the rich, thick gravy. This isn’t just any gravy; it was hearty and perfectly seasoned, the ideal balance of savory depth and richness. The tangy feta cheese added a beautiful Greek twist to the dish, giving it a distinct sharpness that cuts through the richness, adding an extra layer of flavor.
The chicken gyro was served separately, and it truly stood out as its own star. Grilled to perfection, the chicken was juicy, tender, and seasoned exquisitely. The flavors were bold, yet not overwhelming, showcasing the perfect blend of spices that makes Arahova’s gyro so beloved. Whether eaten on its own or combined with the poutine, the chicken added an extra level of magic to the meal. Together, the combination of the crispy fries, smooth gravy, tangy feta, and the grilled chicken created a symphony of textures and flavors. Each bite was balanced, indulgent, and deliciously memorable.
Overall, the West island Arahova Souvlaki maintains the high standards that made their Saint Future location a go-to in my youth. While the souvlaki wraps are still a beloved staple, the Arahova poutine with chicken gyro might just become my new favorite. It’s hearty, flavorful, and an exciting fusion of Canadian comfort food with Greek flair. I would highly recommend this dish to anyone looking to break away from tradition and explore the unique offerings of this...
Read moreTerrible food! The most important thing in a restaurant is the food. No matter how nice the staff are and how beautiful the decor is (which both were), the food has got to be good....and in this case it was far from good, it was pretty much disgusting. I wouldn't feed it to a Racoon, it was this bad! 😫
The rice, Greek potatoes and Greek salad were good. The meats however, were all terrible! The Pork Souvlaki stick smelled and tasted old, stale, rank and on the verge of rotting. 🤪 The Spasti Chicken was burnt, NO, not that delicious char you get from grilling...just BURNT, ashy and bitter. 🙁 The Rib Steak was the worst of them all! The meat smelled stink, YES, S T I N K!! 😩 It literally stunk like a rotting carcass. 🤢 The taste was rank, dirty and old (not that delicious Dry-Aged "old" ) but more like it was left on a dirty Kitchen counter for a week at room temperature "old". 🤮 I truly believe the meat had gone bad but they grilled it and served it anyways...hoping it would pass but it failed miserably! 😵 Within an hour of leaving the restaurant my stomach was bubbling and cramping. I got cold sweats and spent the rest of the night on the Porcelain Throne! 😖🤕
Needless to say, I will never return there! *just to be clear, I have eaten at other Arahovas in the past and it was always decent but this particular West Island location was...
Read moreWent to Arahova Express with some friends to have a little sit down and while we were still eating and laughing it up, the restaurant just starts closing the lights, at which point you can't see that we'll, instead of coming up to us and another couple that we have "x" time left or we will be closing in "x" time.
On the Arahova Menu Board, they have Coffee/Tea available, so I ordered a tea. They tell me that they don't have any tea and that I had to get it from their restaurant neighbor, Thai Express.
So I went over to Thai Express and ordered a tea. They only had black tea. No other teas available. Then I asked for milk or cream, they don't have any. Sugar? it's in an open little solo cup where the ketchup is with other condiments and utensils. So forget that.
All together, food was barely satisfactory but still ate it anyways, AND DON'T...
