Gong Cha Richmond Hill — Restaurant in Richmond Hill

I drove almost 45 minutes out of my way to come to this location specifically for the Mont Blanc Chestnut Milk Tea that was sold out at other Gong Cha locations. The guy behind the counter was preoccupied with his phone, and didn’t even notice me until I called out to him. Sure, I get it, he didn’t want to be there on a long weekend.

Well, when I got my drink, it was clear he had forgotten to add any sugar syrup. As soon as I took a sip, I knew something was off. The sweetness was only coming from the boba pearls. I specified 70%, but I could tell there wasn’t any sugar in the tea itself.

When I went back, a girl “fixed” my drink for me. Except by “fixed” that meant she just haphazardly doctored my existing drink, instead of making a new one. I watched as she added more sugar syrup, more ice (even though I specified less ice), and then topped it off with some random tea. The result tasted nothing like the Mont Blanc Chestnut Milk Teas I have had at other Gong Cha locations. So I basically paid over $10 for a regular pearl milk tea.

She made it a point to shake the cup vigorously to disperse the sugar syrup. Great. EXCEPT the lid was not sealed properly, and the lid unsealed somehow spilling the drink EVERYWHERE in my car which I literally just had detailed earlier.

TLDR: I am NEVER coming back to this...

Absolutely love this place! We’ve been visiting it since it opened, sometimes a few times a week because of how good it is (tea and staff wise) and how convenient it is as well (there’s parking in the back, but it’s a short walk from us). We often order on Uber Eats and it’s already ready by the time we pick it up!

The staff is amazing — friendly, efficient, kind, and always a pleasure to see. I think they’re a really great example of an amazing team, exemplary owners, and a really consistent product. It always tastes the same regardless of time or day, and you can see why there’s often a bit of a line on weekends too.

I’d put their hot pearl tea up there with Kung Fu Tea, and their cold pearl tea with The Alley. Both are excellent and tied for my favourites :)
