I have to say, the location is absolutely amazing, and the reviews i say were also really great, the decorations the way the patio is set up, the fact there’s corn hole and other games while you wait, the fact they allow pets at the patio, the signs, the house itself, the bathrooms, you could also see the water somewhat, all really great things.
I just have a few complaints, the food and drinks were not great, I ordered the old fashioned and it came with tons of ice and barely any crown royale could barely taste the alcohol at all and i finished it in barely 4 sips, the iced tea came in a small glass filled with ice top to bottom and was also about 4 sips, mind you already at 19$.
I ordered the calamari as an appetizer, took about 25 minutes and it was super rubbery, the sauce with it however was really good.
I ordered the fish and chips, my bad for not asking how big the pieces were but I got an extra because 99% of places have small pieces of fish. Food came out both me and my mother had it, the fries were hard as a rock and extremely dry. The fish was clearly previously frozen before being thrown in the fryer had large brown spots on the fish itself, and the batter was undercooked underneath.
I myself can appreciate garnishing but it was excessive and unnecessary especially for fish and chips, the tartar sauce was really good though, not sure if its homemade though.
I also learned that there was only two waitresses that night and they looked stressed out of their minds, extremely polite, great sense of urgency as well. But the fact they have to split their tip with the entire staff threw me off a little bit.
I also recommend cleaning the yard a bit, lot of overgrown shrub and trees that should be cut down for a better view of that river.
The calamari was removed from my bill without even needing to request it, and the waitress we had was really great. 31$ for the food and 19$ for the drinks by myself, plus tip, almost 70$ for one person.
I really see a lot of potential for this place and I hope my critiques will be used as a way to better the place, has great bones. When I come back next year, I will be giving it...
Read moreOnce again ridiculously understaffed. Despite this, Ella our server, was incredible. Once we picked our seat in the lovely new gardens area, Ella was quick to greet us and make sure we had water and our drink order. Food arrived hot and very tasty and our drinks were cold and perfectly timed. Ella was a superstar keeping all the tables happy and cared for. She did a remarkable job covering the huge property with her one or two team mates. I love this restaurant and we’ve been customers for over 7 years. Yet, it’s mind boggling that the owners never staff professionally. When it’s chronically understaffed, customers are kept waiting or food is cold when it finally arrives. The staff suffers abuse from impatient customers and bad tips. Thornbury requires most support staff to drive, therefore they should be compensated accordingly. Collingwood by comparison is able to source “walk to work” staff which is extremely rare in Thornbury’s ever growing and tourist magnet community. It would be nice if those working so hard, driving to work, bring their lovely vibrant energy were paid and tipped respectively. Finally, when paying, the machine should be programmed as many establishments are now; with multiple tip options; 18,20,22, 25/30 and “custom” so customers are encouraged to be more generous. This is basic industry knowledge. I hope the new owners get it right and entice more staff with respectful wages and savvy management. Imagine being known as the restaurant that pays equal to or slightly more than Collingwood! What an interesting strategy to attract staff who can build a business that could be known for excellence in service and food quality; a place with loyal repeat customers who value the unique family & pet friendly dining experience, on a property like no other. Ella - you made our day and we hope you’re there when we...
Read moreBridges/Winifred's has all the makings of being the go to spot in Thornbury/Collingwood. They have a large patio area where you can enjoy some refreshing cocktails in the summer months, the indoor decor is appropriate for the area. You feel like your in a summer cottage. That being said, these were the only positive things I noticed during my experience there.
We showed up around 9:30 on a Saturday evening in July, hoping for some drinks and appetizers. We were hoping to sit on the patio, but found out that we had to go inside if we wanted to order anything, as the wait staff did not bother going outside to check on the guests.
We went inside, and tried to order some food, but were told the kitchen was closed! We ordered some drinks, and were basically ignored for the balance of the evening. We finished our drinks, and sat there waiting for service, which was never given. Instead we heard the bartenders complaining of their eagerness to go home.
Overall, a terrible experience. Not sure what restaurant/bar closes their kitchen that early on a Saturday, and the service was just bad. Follow Up: The owner reached out to me to offer a gift card to entice me to give them another shot, which I was completely willing to do. I reached out to the owner via email to take them up on the offer, and no response was given. It seems they posted their response to my original post to show they are willing to make amends for the poor service without actually doing so. At this point, I couldn't be bothered to give them another shot, between the poor service from my original visit, and the laziness from the owner when following up on their offer, I can;t imagine ever...
