Okay I am not from Jamaica so, I can’t speak to how exactly rice and peas is supposed to taste. I just know that I like the flavours of some rice and peas and dislike the taste of others. Which brings me to Mitzie’s. Now I have never ever tasted such strong cinnamon and I what tasted like cloves in rice and peas in my black life..ever. It was jarring. I was in absolute shock. I couldn’t eat it. It tasted downright strange and peculiar.. Oh ! It was so very unorthodox- Is the cook or chef Jamaican? Because that rice is not it at all. I dislike that rice and peas greatly…yuck!!! On a positive note, the coleslaw is a bit on the sweet side but I really enjoyed it….how could a Jamaican restaurant make rice and peas so strange, dried out with cloves and cinnamon….very strong cinnamon…how? I will definitely buy their coleslaw though. If this restaurant responds positively by addressing the rice and peas issue I will update my review to reflect the positive changes. Mitzie’s explain to me “wat kinda rice and peas yuh Mek” cinnamon? Cloves….nah man…Fix up yourself and do better my girl. Don’t mess around and lose your melanated right to attend the cook out…playing in our face with yuh cinnamon rice and peas…what a mess. As I said fix up and I will do right with the reviews. I am MzMoe the autistic food reviewer. If you hurt or disappoint my stomach, I will hurt your feelings with an...
Read moreThe food from this kitchen is worth every dollar that you spend! My partner had the the jerk chicken dinner with rice and peas. I had the jerk pork sandwich (which I highly recommend) it was delicious. Mouth watering, flavorful with every bite I took! Wasn't too much jerk seasoning or too little, just the right amount. Best pork sandwich that I've ever tasted. I even got extra jerk pork in mines which I was tremendously grateful for. Also received extra coleslaw on the side too. Mitze even took the time to personally give my partner and I our orders! I don't usually leave reviews but for this place it was a must. I'll definitely be back again! 1 thing I would like to recommend to help elevate it would be to add a sauce to it like a bbq sauce or pepper sauce...
Read moreI had friends visiting from the U.S. who were craving jerk chicken late at night—around 10:30. I found Mitzi’s Place, called ahead, and was happy to hear she was still open. My only concern was getting the last bits from the pot. Instead, Mitzi cooked everything fresh.
We enjoyed salt fritters, sample tastings, and two full dinners—jerk chicken, oxtail, rice with oxtail gravy, and plantain. She moved fast, served with a big smile, and delivered amazing flavour. My guests were thrilled, and I discovered a great new Jamaican spot in Toronto’s west end.
Two thumbs up. Well done, Mitzi—big...
