Visited their new Yonge-Dundas location recently as part of their grand opening in late April. Shelby's is one of the popular Shawarma franchises in the city with multiple locations across downtown and throughout. They're best known for their in-house freshly baked pita, which you can see as every pita is made to order for each wrap so the wrap is always fresh. They also have some unique combinations for their bowls and wraps which provide a different or unique twist on the traditional shawarma offering. Ordered their mixed shawarma bowl, which is a mix of all three of their main meats available (chicken, beef & lamb) and only came in their Legendary size. Their bowls also came with a choice of two bases which includes rice, salads or potatoes. In terms of portion size, their Legendary size is definitely filling for one and could be sharable for two for light eaters, as it's filled completely with the sides and meats along with hummus and tahini. On the mixed bowl, the beef and lamb definitely stood out in terms of flavour as compared to the chicken, but overall it was a decent meal especially given the grand opening special. Given their location, this is a decent spot for shawarma due to how close it is to TMU and within the downtown core. Service was generally very friendly and they have an open kitchen so you can see your order being made. They also seem to open late which also makes this a good place for a late night bite as well. Seating is mixed, with a handful of tables inside but usually everything is packed to-go.

I had been wanting to visit this place for a while after seeing it on YouTube Shorts — it always looked fun and unique. I really liked the creative wordplay on the menu items, like the shawarma, fries, Coke, and Abas, and your whole vision around “ketchup shawarma” is definitely funny and original. When I finally visited, the atmosphere inside felt a bit different from what I expected. I appreciated the self-serve kiosks — they make it easy to take your time and explore the menu, especially for first-timers. At the same time, though, they remove a bit of the personal interaction with staff. I also found the seating with the “responsibilities and rules” signs quite amusing — it added a quirky touch. As for the food, it wasn’t quite what I was hoping for. The balance of flavors was off — the meat was hard to taste because it was completely overpowered by molasses, leaving little room for other flavors to come through. Unfortunately, after eating the shawarma, I experienced indigestion and mild food poisoning, which made the visit far less pleasant than I expected. That said, I’m still glad I tried it and satisfied my curiosity — but for me personally, it wasn’t the experience I was hoping for.

It was my first time at Shelby’s, so I’m not sure if this is how it usually tastes, but I’m pretty sure my order got messed up. I ordered two traditional shawarma wraps with spicy garlic because I wanted to try the one with pomegranate molasses — something the regular chicken shawarma doesn’t have. The wait was a bit long, but that’s understandable since it was Shawarma Day. I did like that they make their saj bread fresh right in front of you — that was pretty nice to see. Unfortunately, the shawarma itself wasn’t great. The first few bites were mostly bread and a bit of chicken. There wasn’t much sauce or any pomegranate molasses flavor, just a lot of fries and oil. Overall, not the best experience this time, but I’ve had their rice bowls before when my friend would bring them for me, and those were actually pretty decent. The staff were friendly though, which was a plus.

If you’re craving bold flavours, fresh ingredients, and next-level hospitality, Shelby’s Legendary Shawarma delivers on all fronts — especially with their Chicken Tikka Bowl.

From the first bite, the chicken tikka hits with the perfect blend of spice and smokiness, charred just right and marinated to perfection. Nestled over a bed of seasoned rice and crisp veggies, every forkful balances heat, texture, and savoury depth. The garlic sauce drizzle adds a creamy kick without overpowering the star of the dish — the chicken.

But what truly made the experience memorable was the exceptional customer service, thanks to Surjeet. Warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, Surjeet went above and beyond to ensure everything was to my liking. From patiently answering menu questions to offering thoughtful suggestions, his service added a personal touch that elevated the whole meal. He was very attentive and kind to accomodate and change my order even after it was ready and he customized it to my liking.

Whether you're a regular or a first-timer, Shelby’s delivers not just legendary shawarma, but a dining experience that feels genuinely cared for. Highly recommend trying the Chicken Tikka Bowl — and if you're lucky enough to be served by Surjeet, you're in for a five-star visit and no this is not a...
