This place is a little known gem. An authentic Latin American experience in a cozy and interesting atmosphere.
It is just a husband and wife these days, serving a menu of old family recipes that will not disappoint. I considered giving only 4 stars because it takes longer too get your food than we are typically accustomed to, but the food is so exceptional that I can't bring myself too do it. I would however suggest that you don't go there already hangry. This of course is due to there being one cook and 1 server, but I fear a change to this formula could result in a decline in the quality of the experience.
The beef tacos are unrivaled. Four come in a serving and they are a flavor experience. The papusa are great and are served with a slaw and sauce that you lay on top before eating. There is a tortia soup that is incredible.
I could continue listing items but instead I'll say that everything I've tried has been worth mentioning in a review. If you haven't tried it, do...

Another table I see has their menuās still and if I was to guess- they take a tables order and then work on it before talking to another guest. Iāve watched another two people sit to order, then wait too long- Went to buy something and waited at the cash for 5 minutes and now just leave. Iāve heard itās good, great. However there is something to be said about even acknowledging people and bringing them a water. Takes 1 Minute. I did stand by where they come out of the kitchen , and she came out and I said do I seat myself? Can I just order tortilla soup please. She said āpffff- other people are first.ā.. They havenāt even taken the order of the other table here. Iāve sat here now for 25 minutes. Itās Not even busy! There is a table of 4 and then a table of two( who havenāt been spoken to), ...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMercadito Latino is a great local, family-run restaurant serving a variety of authentic Salvadorean and Central American meals in Winnipeg's West End.
I recently visited here for dinner on July 18, 2020 and have previously eaten here as well. On my most recent visit, I ordered the vegetarian tacos which consisted of corn tortillas filled with refried beans, avocado, and pico de gallo and a side of homemade salsa. They were delicious and satisfying! The menu has other vegan/vegetarian options as well including bean pupusas, corn tamales and other dishes which I was impressed by.
The service is friendly and they also have a small store within the restaurant with authentic food products from Central America. The atmosphere is welcoming and cozy and it feels like you're eating in the home of a...
