Having once resided in Hong Kong I returned for a little while to enjoy the night life. Having adequately started enjoying my night, I stumbled upon what I thought to be a tailors. Although I was well lubricated I stumbled in thinking 'I needed a new suit.' After making it down the hallway I was greeted and found it was I fact not a tailors and was in fact a nightclub in the speakeasy style of a US prohibition joint. It was fairly busy but I was still greeted by the manager and lovely ladies escorted me to a seat they'd picked for me at the bar. It didn't take long for me to discover that they had a live band. Now, I wasn't into them so much but most everyone else enjoyed them. They weren't bad, as bands go, they were just playing music I wasn't feeling that night. I had a few well crafted cocktails but ruined it by ordering a shot of Belvedere vodka. Hit: I don't do well drinking shots. Even considering my drunken state, the atmosphere was fun and I'd met a lot of interesting people like myself. Many locals and a few expats, even fellow weary travelers.
The entire time the staff were efficient and friendly and the service was, 'spot on' as my Welsh friend would say. I'm going back to Hong Kong in January and am interested to try their food. Hopefully this time I'll be a little more sober so I can...
Read moreMost disappointing expensive restaurant in HK I've ever been. Came at around 7pm and informed we have the table until 9pm. They told us several times during the meal (once every 30 minutes) that we had to leave unless we had a minimum spend for the rest of the night to watch the live band. We were not interested and just wanted to have dinner. The constant reminders and interruptions just killed our mood. I don't want to be treated like a second class citizen in HK.
We finished our mains by 8pm and spent the next 1.5 hours waiting for our desserts that almost never came. Waiting for our desserts put us past the 9PM timing and the staff seemed to want to chase us out as the reminders to leave became more frequent. We only had less than 15 mins to finish our desserts before they chased us out of the place. It wasn't even full house and they still forgot our desserts! They also got one of our orders wrong.
Food is sub par for the price we paid. The only thing that has this place going is the ambience. But sometimes it's so loud that you can't even have a conversation without raising your voice.
Absolutely will not...
Read moreMost of you should be familiar with Foxglove, the đ·bar/ restaurant behind an umbrella shop. I went on a Monday with my PT (yes, Iâm the bad influence) and I was surprised itâs basically JAM PACKED. Well done guys! Always quite impressed by their dimsum quality! Who have thought they serve legit đ„ą dimsum at a bar (and with live music from time to time!!). My fav is always gonna be Mala XLB (love the tanginess of the soup). I also highly recommend the turnip deep fried puff (eat it while its still hot). Also tried a new dish this time â cumin spiced đlamb served with crystal wraps. You can smell the aroma the moment it was served. A very aromatic dish! On a spicier note, the golden hotpot (which is mandarin fish in Sichuan hot broth) portion is GENEROUS. Itâs a flat noodle paradise and fish was tender too. I should have come on a Wednesday because they have this âïž star search thing every wed night where local hidden talents from different walks of life can SHINE on the stage. Oh almost forgot to mention they have a good selection of cocktails as well - tried the Purple Rain (inspired by the Princeâs song obv)!...
