Wally's Coffee — Restaurant in Lille

Great coffee, great food, good price but also super friendly, warm and welcoming staff.

Our bill: We shared pancakes and still couldn't finish them, latte, filter and espresso for 24€ so for €12 per person we were very happy.

Coffee: Very very good. On par with any 3rd wave specialty coffee shop you could name. Plus, nothing beats an owner-operated single location cafe/roastery.

Space: HIDDEN CAFE! Walk through the entrance and the roasting space and the shop just keeps going and going. One of the most unique and inspiring spaces I have ever seen in coffee. It is full on natural light, on multiple levels, has 5 or more different sections painted in different colours and decorated with plants and comfortable furniture. Yet it still feels very cosy. Would visit in both summer and winter.

Staff/Owner: Every staff member was so welcoming and friendly, I didn't feel bad about not knowing any French. Waly was on the espresso machine and said a friendly hello. When we asked which beans were on filter he brought us a bag and was so friendly he let us ask him a million questions about himself and the shop. This boy from Senegal had nothing but a backpack and has built a life, business and work family here in Lille and I think he genuinely loves making food and coffee for his customers.

Overall, we had a nice experience here and the food was so good, I would return if I am in Lille again. The brunch selections here were excellent. We enjoyed the oeuf à la turque and the avocado toast (which we were able to order without the feta for a dairy free option). Plenty of vegetarian options, but if you need vegan, you will need to ask the staff after you order. The coffees were good too, and they offer oat milk options. The staff speak some English which was very helpful when my French failed me.

The only issue was the service - you order through an app and while our order was confirmed, it apparently wasn't transmitted to the kitchen and we waited over an hour. Very cool place for a breakfast/brunch, coffee and cakes!

🥪 We had a toast with scrambled eggs, mushrooms, onion and bacon. It was pretty nice and big.

🍰 Red velvet cake and brownie with hazelnut were both amazing. Texture was as it's supposed to be and the tast was on point.

☕️ Coffee was the only thing we did not like here. It was too bitter and with no specific taste.

🤵‍♂️🤵‍♀️ Waiters team was amazing. They were all delightful and made the atmosphere so nice. We had few of them serving our tables (taking order, serving coffee, serving food) and they were all super nice!

🏠 Place on it's own looks cool and has few levels with a lot of places to sit.
