5 stars!!!
We heard about Juveniles from the Paris by Mouth restaurant blog. I managed to call and get a 12:30pm lunch reservation. The street feels like a nice alleyway filled with small shops and restaurants leading to the louvre...
We ordered the Entrecote for 2 (steak). It was served with housemade mashed potatoes. It says it is cooked rare, and we kept it that way so the Chef could do what he thinks is best. Back home, we would probably ask for Med rare to medium.
This was honestly the best steak we both have ever had. Sometimes, people will say "it is the best I ever had" but this really really was. I worked at fine dining steak houses here in the USA for many years and nothing comes close to this one served at Juveniles. My goodness, I am not sure what their secret is, but it'll be tough to find a steak like that again anytime soon! It is priced at 70 euros, which might seem like a lot, but the other dishes are around 30 euros and it is absolutely more than enough to share for 2. The mashed potatoes served with it were also great. Other tables had ordered the scallops, seabass, and chicken supreme which all looked great. The group next to us had a vegetarian in the group... she kept saying how she trusts this restaurant to be able to cook up something good for her and it looked like they did.
Another superstar of the meal was the rice pudding we had for dessert. Assuming everything here is home made, they get a 10/10 for this dessert, including the caramel sauce that goes on top.
Juveniles doesn't look like your typical touristy looking bistro or cafe, but hands down it was in our top 3 fav restaurants of our trip. If I come back to Paris anytime soon, this will be an absolute must to include in our trip itinerary.
I had considered dropping this reservation because it didn't have all of the bells and whistles that a typical tourist would look for.. but I am so glad we decided...
Read moreJust had dinner at Juveniles again, and fantastic as always. I don't know how many times I can write about this restaurant, but it is my #1 go to in Paris ... even over the Michelin restaurants. We started with the gnocchi that was absolutely covered in truffles. We saw the chef shaving and thought it surely must have been for two plates. Pillowy, wonderful sauce, umami truffles. The veal tongue croquette was perfectly battered and juicy in the inside. The soft boiled egg was cooked precisely with the yolk running out. We could have just ordered multiple appetizers and had an excellent dinner.
For the mains, we had the special of the day which was a pork that just melted. No knife needed. The beef braised in red wine was also delicious and filling with a nice sweet potato and sweet potato crisps.
Dessert shouldn't be missed. All four were very good, but the rice pudding with salted caramel blew us away. We normally don't like rice pudding, but the texture on this was not mushy and that salted caramel sauce elevated the dish completely. Should have saved room for two servings!
I've said it before, but I think the chef at Juveniles serves one of the best meals in all of Paris, and for a very affordable price. His wife is also a seasoned restauranteur who manages the house extremely well. I have and will continue to recommend it to anyone who...
Read moreFavorite Parisian meal from our two trips in the last few years. We had lunch in the small space which looked tight with the full house but still felt comfortable and spacious enough to enjoy our meal. Service was quite friendly and helpful which surprised me since I had a hard time when calling to make reservations with my limited French. On this day they spoke great English and made dining very easy. Starters were exceptional if a tad bit salty. Grilled razor clams with ginger and watercress with a buttery sauce. Delicious with the bread. The other was grilled octopus with new potatoes, sopraseda sausage, broad beans and sorrel cream. It was lovely. We could not decide which was better. The mains were equally strong: roasted rack of pork with Parmesan gnocchi and sautéed chard- excellent. The wild turbot fish was maybe even more delicious and came with several different side flavors too. There were many delectable bites in each dish that all went together beautifully. We had no room for dessert which saddens me but will save space next time. As we left the hostess told me that when I first arrived for our lunch (I had walked ahead of my wife since we were running late for our reservation) and told her “J’attends mon mari” I had said “I’m waiting for my husband” which made her laugh as she saw my beautiful wife come in so I also learned a little...
