We ate here this week and unfortunately it didn’t pass the authenticity test of my Japanese girlfriend.
They successfully created an appearance of being an authentic Japanese-run restaurant but there are a few hints that it’s not.
For instance, Poke is not Japanese but Hawaiian… also pouring green tea over a brownie doesn’t make it a Japanese dessert (the brownie was good but the green tea didn’t add anything). Rice bowl and chop sticks were placed incorrectly on the table following Japanese table customs.
The Tempura was good, the sushi and sashimi were okay but not outstanding.

Read moreDuring our first time, Nanaumi became our favorite authentic Japanese for sushi and chirashi, and for its location near Opera. Reservations were easy using the Fork or Google maps. I also like the Japandi interior, the colors used and their playlist of old songs.
The second time, the service, the quality and particularly, the taste of every dish were always excellent!
The third time, September, we were quite disappointed. There were changes with the dinner menu : maki and chirashi were no longer available. Rice was hard and there were some uncooked bits of rice. Started with a sparkling yuzu Then the shrimp gyozas, always a good idea even more when they taste that good. The main was the grilled poulp, the chef’suggestion served with rice and taste really good, crispy from the outside, soft from the inside. And then end with a matcha crème brûlée, It was worth trying ! I will suggest to book your table in advance or go for the take away...
