I recently had the opportunity to enjoy a breakfast buffet at ALEX in Hamburg with a companion. The standout feature of this venue is undoubtedly its iconic view of the Alster lake. This picturesque setting made for a truly pleasant and relaxing breakfast experience, allowing us to savor the moment and enjoy the serene surroundings.

We found the overall atmosphere to be quite enjoyable, contributing positively to our morning. However, there were a few areas that could use improvement. The service, while generally efficient, could benefit from a more welcoming approach. The waitstaff, at times, seemed a bit hurried, which slightly impacted the otherwise pleasant experience.

In terms of the buffet selection, it was somewhat limited. The variety of food included a few types of cheese and processed meats, with only two options for eggs – scrambled with or without paprika. Additionally, the buffet offered a small selection of jams and just one small orange juice per person, with any additional drinks requiring a separate order and payment.

One notable disappointment was the absence of seafood options. Given the restaurant's prime location by the lake, we were expecting a more diverse selection that included items like fish and shrimp. This lack of seafood was particularly surprising and a bit of a letdown.

Despite these shortcomings, we did have an enjoyable time, especially due to the stunning view and the overall ambiance of the Alsterpavillon. For those who prioritize a beautiful setting and a tranquil breakfast experience, this venue could still be a worthwhile visit. However, for a more comprehensive breakfast buffet, other options in Hamburg might be more satisfying.
