I recently had the pleasure of dining at Ratskeller München, and it was an absolutely beautiful experience! This old-style German restaurant perfectly captures the essence of Bavarian culture, with its stunning classic decor and warm, inviting atmosphere. Located right at Marienplatz, it’s a must-visit for anyone looking to experience traditional German hospitality and cuisine. From the moment I stepped in, I was transported back to the 19th century with its charming cellar-like ambiance and beautiful wooden interiors. The walls adorned with classic paintings and vintage-style furnishings made the experience feel authentic and cozy. I ordered the Bratwurst Sampler, which was a delightful assortment of various traditional sausages, including Nuremberg-style bratwurst, skinless veal sausage, smoked beef beerknaack-bratwurst, and schnaps bratwurst. The platter also included grilled bacon, sauerkraut, and creamy mashed potatoes. Each sausage had its own unique flavor and texture, perfectly showcasing the diversity of Bavarian cuisine. The sauerkraut was tangy and paired wonderfully with the smoky, savory sausages, while the mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery, complementing the meal. To accompany the meal, I had the Löwenbräu Premium Dark Lager Dunkel (0.5L), which was rich, smooth, and slightly sweet. It had deep, malty undertones that went perfectly with the hearty meal. I also tried the Franziskaner Weizen (Wheatbeer), which was refreshing, light, and crisp — a perfect contrast to the dark lager. Overall, the dining experience at Ratskeller München was exceptional. The service was attentive and friendly, making me feel welcomed and well cared for throughout my meal. The combination of delicious food, classic Bavarian decor, and warm service makes this place a must-visit for anyone exploring Munich. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a taste of authentic German cuisine. I can't wait to visit again!

WOW! I cannot give this place high enough remarks for food, service and ambience. My Veal Schnitzel Cordon Bleau was exceptional. Crispy crust with ooey gooey cheese, veal and ham on the inside. So delicious! And such a huge portion! The salad that came out first was fantastic too. It was like 5 salads in one! A cucumber salad, potato salad, carrot salad, a kraut salad and a leafy salad with dressing. All of them were yummy, especially the potato salad. My husband had the Roasted Pork. That just melted in my mouth! The flavor was delicious!!! For dessert I had the Apple Strudel. I don't even know where to start..... OMG! The strudel was delicious. The homemade vanilla ice cream was too die for and that homemade vanilla creme sauce blew my mind it was so damn good!!!!! I could drink a bathtub full of that stuff! My husband had the creme brulee and it was also very good. Our service was exquisite and I'm so mad that I can't remember his name! The ambience is off the chain. So many little romantic nooks and crannies to sit in or plenty of open area places to sit and observe the hopping goings on all around you. Do yourself a favor and visit this gem of a restaurant.

This restaurant is the most impressive of all that I have ever visited. This is a huge area under the town hall and an open area in the courtyard of this town hall. Below are various zones made in a beautiful wooden style with metal decorative elements and frescoes on the windows, wherever they lead, and an interesting design of some tables for a company of people. In general, it is look like a large restaurant in the basement in the "knightly era", somehow like that. Very beautiful and very atmospheric place. There were a lot of people in the restaurant, but we did not have to wait a long time for the waiter. And they came up and asked once if everything is good and if we like the food. My wife and I also liked the food here. I would not put the highest rating only for the atmosphere. They cook very tasty here (The case when a restaurant does not get a "star disease" because they are a famous place in the center of the tourist area). Both my wife and I really liked the ordered dishes and drinks. I recommend the assorted Bavarian sausages with the mashed potato.

Let’s talk about the elephant in the room. Is Rathskeller a tourist trap? Yes. Yes it is. Was I a happy tourist dining here? Yes. Yes I was. We decided at the spur of the moment to try it. We walked down the unassuming steps into a cavernous restaurant that must span much of the base of old city hall. We did not have a reservation but they had a no show, so we were in luck. I ordered the potato pancake for us as an appetizer. My wife ordered the bratwurst and sauerkraut for dinner and I had the pork knuckle. We ordered drinks that came quickly. As we waited for our dinner we perused the beautiful decor including the stained glass windows, a barrel that 10 men could fit in and the impressive staircase. Our pancakes arrived hot and crispy accompanied by amazing kraut. Our dinners were authentic and delicious and arrived quickly but not rushed. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse which was also great. I was even surprised when the check came and it was very reasonable. I’d fall for this trap again any day. Make a reservation and go!!
