We rented the largest unit in The Black Pearl, a fifth-floor "penthouse" for a group of six adults. The unit provided everything we needed. It was spacious, well-designed and well-furnished. It includes a living room, dining area, full well-stocked kitchen, three bedrooms (two with king-sized beds and one with two twin beds) and two bathrooms. It also has a large wrap-around balcony facing east and south. It is served by a private elevator that requires a fob for use. The bedrooms were quiet at night. There was ample storage space for clothing.||Everything in this unit is completely up-to-date. Bath and bed linens are of high quality. The bathrooms were well stocked with toiletries. The kitchen was also fully stocked with everything needed to prepare and serve full meals.||Each bedroom has a large TV, and there is an even larger one in the living room. All were easy to use. The free wifi was easy to access and always reliable. Controls for lighting and heating were a bit complicated, but once we mastered them they worked well.||The Black Pearl is in an excellent location. Many restaurants, shops and tourist attractions were just a short walk away. This included some relatively large "convenience markets" for food shopping, which served us well for breakfast food and snacks. A stop for the local transit system was also nearby. No need to have your own car!||The hotel staff members are extremely courteous and skilled at helping to solve challenges. The housekeeping service was excellent.||The Black Pearl is expensive, but then everything in Reykjavik is expensive. It's a great place to stay for that "special trip." Ours was a family celebration of our 40th wedding anniversary. When we return to Reykjavik, this will be the first hotel we consider...

The only reason I am not giving the review five stars is for their misleading room description. We booked a Deluxe Suite because we have two children that each need their own bed. The room description states that "These modern apartments come with a comfortable kingsize bed and a double and a roll away bed in the living room." This clearly indicates that the room comes with three beds. However, upon arrival at the hotel, we were informed we would need to pay an additional 375 Euros for the rollaway bed because we did not have five people in the room, and that bed is apparently only given for a fifth guest. This charge is not mentioned on the website, it was not mentioned when we booked the room and informed the hotel there would be four people in it, and we could not get into our room without paying it. I argued against the charge, even bringing up the room description on my phone, but the hotel would not budge. After an overnight flight, everyone was exhausted and our children needed to get some sleep, so I had no choice but to grudgingly pay the charge.
I would give this hotel five stars were it not for the additional fee that was forced upon us when we arrived. It was a very unpleasant way to begin what was otherwise a wonderful...
Read moreIt’s a very nice apartment stocked with full kitchen utensils, a balcony and plenty of space for 2 adults. Also a well stocked mini bar that is helpful because buying/finding alcohol can be tricky. There is a fold out couch I would say could be perfect for a couple kids or adults you don’t really like- but remember only 1 bathroom. The first couple days we were here, the place was so hot we couldn’t sleep. They tried to help us with some kind of water cooling system however, the floors are heated and it’s just hot. If you leave the windows open, there are motorcyclists revving their engines all evening when you want to sleep. Another thing that makes it difficult to keep the windows open is that it is/can be light until midnight or so. (Definitely not anything against the hotel!!!) being in the city center is magical! You can walk to so many destinations, I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Reykjavík. Additionally, they have parking!! This is incredible for the city center and those of us that rent cars for excursions. Reasonably priced at approximately $28 USD per day. I also recommend groceries for a couple meals easily prepared in the kitchen as the prices on basic to-go foods can be pricey. This is a beautiful, welcoming country (slightly volatile weather for my taste!) and I would 100%...
