Grillhúsið á Sprengisandi — Restaurant in Reykjavik

I went to Grillhúsið with a party of six people, 3 adults and 3 kids. The adults ordered three different kinds of burgers, then a chicken pasta dish and some rice porridge for the young'uns. My oldest kid whom had the pasta, quickly disliked it so we got him some porridge as well. I tasted the pasta and it wasn't bad tasting, just kinda bland. Of the three burgers ordered, two of them were apparently quite good, but I didn't like mine. It had onion rings on top which were dripping with BBQ sauce and garlic sauce. The two sauces inevitably mixed and changed into something that gave a very bad after taste. It wasn't badly cooked but the pairing of the sauces is a questionable culinary choice, so I'd recommend not taking that one. We decided to have desserts but they were out of strawberry flavored Ice cream (a must have if you ask my kids) so we paid up and went to an ice cream parlor instead.

The prices are on par with similar family dining restaurants. Expect to pay around 4-6000 kr. for each person. (1500-2000 kr. for kids if using the kids menu).

Quick word on the decor. It looks great, a bit Hard Rock inspired with the music motif and a motorcycle on display. But by the entrance there is a really messy corner with a pulled down dusty television set and a sofa with some crap probably meant for storage. It kinda sticks out in a bad way.

Neither the WC nor the pepper was accessible

I ordered an expensive steak with red wine and was expecting a nice dinner. When it finally arrived it had been shoveled onto a cold plate and all the food, except for the gravy which was in its own separate bowl, was cold. The baked potato was so cold that butter didn´t even melt in it and had to be mashed with a fork to blend with it. The holes in the pepper shaker were too small to allow for any pepper to dispense. I asked for some pepper and got two tiny sachets which were about half of what I would otherwise have used. I am very disappointed when I ordered my plate, it looked like someone's else had my half piece of meat. Plus the gentleman who attended me didn't welcome us with a smile, sorry cost nothing to smile your guests, call me Spanish but service it's not all about food. Another thing is I had to search ketchup on the 3 table next to me as there were all empty. Perhaps today was not the gentleman's day but I live here in Iceland for 5 years and this is first time I had such a bad service. I have been in other grillhúsið in Iceland and they were great.
