While passing through HSR layout, noticed this restaurant and decided had to have breakfast here.. We were pleasantly surprised that there were 1-2 people at the time of entering this place given that it was around 9:30-9:45AM on a Sunday.. We took a look at the menu board on the wall, decided on few items and paid for it.
We sat down at one of the benches awaiting food..of the ordered items, Ghee roast Masala Dosas came first followed by Paneer Dosa and a Kerala Parota.. All 3 folks who had ordered Dosas mentioned tasting light and crisp dosas ( not much oil). We noticed Dosas were light brown in color as compared to small darker red brown masala dosas that are served at Darshini style restaurants. 2 Kerala Parotas were provided and the subzi given with it was north Indian style aloo tomato masala rather than traditional chick peas curry.
We also ordered a plate of Puliyogare and Idlis+Vada which were shared amongst us..The Puliyogare was light and flavorful with a hint of spice after trying it the first time but cannot be compared to Iyengar style Pyliyogare. The Idlis were made like Mallige idli type that you get many hotels Bengaluru outskirts or other towns. Idlis were soft and were good with chutney and sambar. I accidentally mixed a spoon of chutney in the sambar cup and this mix was even better compared to just plain chutney or sambar :) Vada was the only item which we felt was oily but the taste was good.
After breakfast was done, 1 round of their special coffee was ordered and it completed our breakfast. Coffee was good. My recommendation would be try the Dosa and Idli items here.. After a long time had a good and peaceful breakfast here at MDP Coffee House, a nice and calm environment as compared to other hotels in HSR where people are standing in queues and such places are noisy like main road traffic. For parking, spaces are available a little further down the road as there is no specific vehicle parking area near the hotel. Will visit this hotel again to try other...
Read moreWhile passing by, I came across MDP Coffee House, a relatively quiet and lesser-known roadside café with ample seating space. Curious, I stepped in to try their filter coffee offerings and was pleasantly surprised by certain aspects of the experience.
The place was clean and decently maintained, which immediately gave a positive impression. Despite being largely empty during my visit, the café seemed well-prepared to accommodate a good number of customers with its spacious seating arrangement.
I sampled two types of coffee:
The regular filter coffee (₹15), which was fairly standard — not disappointing, but nothing particularly unique either.
The special MDP coffee (₹40), on the other hand, stood out. Served in a traditional brass cup, it was made with jaggery instead of sugar, which gave it a rich, earthy sweetness and more depth in flavour. The portion size was generous, and the presentation added to the charm.
MDP Coffee House also offers a selection of breakfast items and other food options, although I did not try them on this visit. Given the reasonable prices and calm setting, this café could be a good option for those looking for a peaceful, no-frills place to enjoy traditional South Indian coffee.
In summary, MDP Coffee House is worth a visit — especially if you’re looking to try something slightly different from the usual filter coffee. Their special jaggery-based coffee is definitely...
Read moreMDP Coffee House is a nice little cafe serving fresh vegetarian dishes like idli, dosa, podi dosa, filter coffee, tea, pongal and varieties of rice like lemon rice and puliyogare.
The vibe of this place is better than a regular udupi place with a modern seating arrangement but the food quality is exceptionally good. They have the best sambar I have had in Bangalore and I have had dosa/idli and sambar at at least 50+ cafes, udupis, and restaurants.
The prices are decent, service is quick and the place is clean so overall it makes a nice, quiet place to enjoy breakfast once in a while, when you are not looking to stand in a queue in a darshini place.
Cost for two - 150-200/-
What we tried -
Filter coffee - Good blend of coffee, strong and hits the right spot.
Ghee Podi Masala Dosa - The open dosa was good and the sambar was one of the best, quite similar to the sambar I have had in tamil nadu. It was not sweet, had tangy notes which is just the way I like it.
A good spot for breakfast and filter coffee...
