Warung Bu' Bagus was a standout, a highlight of our fortnight going from warung to warung looking for tasty Indo treats.
The venue is . . . ordinary. I think most of the tables are outdoors under a sort of shed roof. Does that matter? No. Not unless it's smashing down with rain.
The chap looking after us was helpful and friendly. He also spoke English like a university student, with old school manners to boot. I wish we'd had time to chat and find out his story.
The food: yes! I had fried duck, which came with rice (surprise!) and two beautiful sambals. One was a green chili sambal with (I think) an aubergine base. The other was the more familiar red chili sambal with shrimp paste and palm sugar. A great success. I also got my teeth into a shared spring roll, which completely nailed the brief.
Prices were very fair.
If we'd found this earlier in our trip, we'd have gone back over and over again. What a winner.

Read moreVery poor quality food!! We had our first dinner in Bali with my family there and what a bad start!! First they served the water spinach first after already a long wait without any rice or cutlery to eat with, then we had ordered rice with our dishes but they only brought the rice(with wasn’t cooked enough and was honestly very bad!!) without any of the dishes. Then after asking again, the dishes finally came but with such a long wait between them. So we didn’t get to eat all together. The grilled fish I ordered was so tasteless and so were the other dishes: octopus skewers and pork ribs. Honestly it didn’t seem expensive when we looked at the menu but don’t go there it’s a ripoff and waist of your time and money even if the price is correct, the food isn’t good!! Also the pictures they show you on the menu isn’t what you’ll get in your...
Read moreThe food here was outstanding! My husband and I purposefully seek out warungs. This joint did not disappoint! I had the Mie Goreng Especial and my husband had the Nasi Goreng Especial and we split prawns, calamari, and chicken sate. All were amazing. The sauce on the prawns was a sweet chili, which was perfect. The calamari had what was akin to a marinara. Both were great! I would have liked if the prawns came peeled because once they are cooked, it becomes a bit more taxing, but that's my only qualm. The vibe of this pace is great! I could sit here and drink Bintangs all night. Overall, I highly recommend it. The...
