Well, there I was on day two of my yoga retreat in sunny Uluwatu, Bali. I had some free time, so I decided to go exploring on foot, which is one of my favourite things to do. I had heard Kelly’s Warung was a cool place to eat at. So, after I programmed it into google maps, I was off! I got lost a couple of times but for me, that’s part of the fun of travelling. I made my way through the busy streets and past the ducks, chickens (have you ever seen so many?!) cats and the occasional dog. I always love the menagerie that Bali offers up on a daily basis. It just feels right walking among the animals. I finally got closer to the venue. I made way down a small street and found the way down to Kelly’s Warung. I made my way down some steep steps - mountain goats would be right at home here 😉 But seriously, the steps are relatively manageable. Just before you get to the venue, you are greeted by magnificent ocean views. You can’t help but appreciate the beauty on offer. The venue is well appointed, with wooden tables and chairs, some of which had comfy cushions. The wood furniture suits this ocean facing venue down to the ground. Wood is from the earth and provided by nature. And the ocean is just wonderful. Very calming. There’s a great menu selection, with local cuisine like nasi goreng, as well as Western options - think loaded fries, burgers and the like. The vibe is great. Low key, with chilled music, and the staff are super chilled too. To top it off, you can sit at a wooden bar overlooking the ocean. When I was there, that was the most popular section by far. Plus, the way Kelly’s is set up, you get a great sea breeze that comes in and cools you down nicely. It takes the humidity right out of the air. Always a good thing. Anyone would have a good time here. You could bring your family or a date. Personally, I felt right at home. But then, it’s a tropical island paradise – it’s hard not to be comfortable. 😊 I opted for the chicken satay sticks, which came as a serve of eight, which was very generous. The sauce was nice – tangy but not overpowering and the chicken was tasty too. I also got the loaded fries, which was a great choice. The cheese sauce and the jalapenos make a great combo, and the siracha mayo really works well too. The slaw gave this dish a nice lightness and crunch. I capped off my food with a banana smoothie, my personal favourite. All in all, Kelly’s Warung has it all – good vibes, good times and good food. Definitely worth the walk.

Nice restaurant with ample seating and amazing ocean views. The staff are friendly and food is good yet they could add more vegetarian options like a Mexican bean dish they already make their own House baked chips. A brown rice dish option would also be very supportive to vegetarian. They use standard Indonesian cooking oil VS coconut or olive oil So to stay healthy I avoided anything fried. It would be an interesting experiment to have two menus one with regular Indonesian oil and the other one cooked with coconut oil and increasing the price 10,000 per meal and give the consumer the option. Do that for three months and see what the client base prefers price versus health. I think a restaurant cooking with coconut oil would attract a lot more health conscious consumers and profits would increase.

The food and drinks were nice with many great vegetarian and vegan options. It was a little bit hard to find, especially when you start from the wrong position. We had to pass right through restaurants and houses and small areas and stairs which felt like the wrong way all the time. But after a while we reached the beach and then walked along the beach to the café. When we left the café we discovered there were an easier way back. It's a nice spot to watch wind surfers and the waves of the ocean. I would almost give it five stars, but I don't really like when the restaurants allow souvenir sellers to come up to your table and try to sell things. That would never ever be accepted in Europe. When you've entered a restaurant you don't only pay for the food, you pay for a place to sit and eat in peace.

Great place to chill and watch the surfers do their thing until sunset. Kinda hard to find via Grab or Gojek because it's a walk from a parking lot, but there are lots of signs and locals will point you in the right direction if you ask kindly. Bear in mind this place is CASH only and they've got a pretty small menu, but the margaritas are EXCELLENT and the vibe is very dreamy at sunset. The teriyaki bowl was delicious. Only drawback was that the staff seemed pretty limited so if it's a packed house you'll have to go directly to the bar or hope you can flag down the poor waiter running around trying her BEST to make everyone happy all at once. Overall. No regrets at all. Would definitely go back and watch the water till sunset any time.

No fault of theirs, they were quite busy at 3:30pm when I visited. Service was friendly but a bit scattered and inconsistent (one staff member told me to order at the counter then another said they had table service - table service ended in 10 mins of me just sitting and waiting without any attention). Lots of vegan options, tofu poke bowl was yum and fresh (tofu was warm and marinated well) although sadly not quite as filling as I’d hoped it might be. Will order a carby side too next time. I was originally hoping to get a veganised nasi goreng as I’d heard good things from friends but they weren’t willing to customise it. View from any table would be amazing. Atmosphere was laid back and easy which was so nice.

Pretty place with nice food. About 25-30 min wait for food for 5 people and all came out at the same time. Nice music vibes. It has a few different balcony style levels to eat or drink across. There is also some tables and a lounge under cover. And some informal bean bag and table chill areas. Directly in front of the beach with the sound of the waves. Apple Maps seemed more accurate in guiding us down the right path compared to Google maps when in walk mode. You have to go down about 50 stairs — is easy ish and worth it. Seems cars don’t drive right to the entry they kind of drop you 8 min walk away and you walk down some laneways down. Totally recommend.
