Had looked forward to this meal since lockdown, as had followed Olivers restaurants online during pandemic, did cookalongs, his brown soda bread is now a staple in our house. Booked for 5pm , 2 adults 2 children. Given choice of table and picked lovely one beside window with sofa chair. Ordered water for myself and wife, and ordered 2 Mocktails for children. Jug of water arrived with no ice, room temperature, waited 10mins for the children's drinks after being reassured they were on the way, they were only Shirley temples so nothing too outrageous. Chose the Christmas menu which looked fab, and as shown online we were really looking forward to it. Eldest child was having an adults mains and youngest decided on chicken goujons with mash, veg and gravy. Starters arrived Duck & Goats Cheese, both tasty, but carrots for goats cheese were dry, no glaze or dressing which was odd. Starters were cleared, and we then waited 35minutes for our main courses and children's food to arrive. We were assured twice that it was on the way, restaurant was busy but we had been the 1st table into restaurant at 5pm and ordered 2nd in the room. Main courses arrived. Child's main course chicken - for some reason they had little gnocchi but seemingly lots of pepper stew to use up as it filled the bowl under the chicken and tomato sauce tasted burnt unfortunately. Cod mains - really poor, salad leaves on side, no dressing on the leaves, lemon & aoili no where to be seen, fish cake under cod was nice, presentation was more pub grub than pictures on line that sold the dish to us before hand. Rib eye steak - should have ordered different mains, really poor steak, some sauce underneath and that was it, ordered it medium rare, cooked to that point but stone cold for some reason. Sides - parmesan fries - string chips in a bowl which had dried out and stuck together with a dusting of parmesan cheese on top poor. Sugar snaps with sesame seeds - over cooked, brown and just covered with seeds but no flavour Youngest goujons were ok, but mash potato was split and gravy cold. More water ordered for table once again room temperature no ice in glasses or in jug, unless the machine is broken why would you not serve ice with water? Desserts Chocolate Tart - nice but not the deep Chocolate flavour I was expecting, raspberry ice cream was delicious but presentation was poor vs. online pictures Apple crumble - very nice lovely flavours , simple presentation. Children's profiteroles - were lovely. Wanted to have a coffee and tea with dessert but felt we were being rushed out at that stage.
The restaurant was very busy as were leaving with a few larger parties but we had looked forward to this meal and the occasion for a long time and felt service, food and presentation does not match up to Olivers high standards on his media pages. So disappointed as had hoped this was the gem we had...
Read moreRegular diner living in Malahide.Im sorry to write this but Bon appetites standards have dropped in particular over the last 18 months. I noticed it first in the tapas bar and then the brassarie restaurant. What put me over the edge was last night when my wife and I dined for a casual experience in the tapas bar. Service was very slow and it was not that it was Saturday night but the staff seemed clueless to the customer needs although very polite. I eventually had to ask can somebody take our order. We had 7 tapas and a glass of wine each. Now the food was fine but the amount of times different waiters came over to ask how was the food including before we even started eating was way way over the top. Other food was brought to our table that was not ordered and to top it off when we called for the bill we were overcharged. The bill was slow to come even though 5 mins previous we were asked could we give the table up as we were there for 2 hours which is quite understandable. We were charged for 3 x early bird meals (3 tapas at an early bird rate)and separate single tapas. When I queried it I was initially told yes that does not look right and then when waitor came back that yes it indeed is right. I brought it to restaurant mgrs attention to explain it to him that it could not be correct. He was slow to come back and apologized and said it was correct. When we further explained we only got 7 tapas and that each one varied some €5 some €4 some €8 it did not tot up to early bird rate and it was in fact cheaper. He eventually reduced the bill but I felt something possibly sinister was going on in the background and if I recall something like this happened before on our previous visit to Tapas here. You can put two and two together on that with people drinking and not recalling how many tapas! I paid the bill and was waiting for my change which was approx €20,itnever came. Waited 10 mins and got up and left.My point is the change would of been the tip but I never got the opportunity to leave this. I complained to general manager Luis and I was really not impressed by him.Did not greet us professionally and bring us to separate area, was more you must of seen me during some of your visits I’m Luis and Im here over 10 years. He eventually got better but no business card but wrote his name Luis general manager on a piece of paper. A lost customer Bon appetite and we will not be dining at this restaurant...
Read moreWe booked Bon Appetit for our wedding and all we wanted was for our 60 guests to have a calm, relaxed day in a beautiful setting. When you’re booking your wedding, you’re taking a chance with all the suppliers, in the hope that they can help you achieve your dream day. Each person we encountered in Bon Appetit contributed to just that: from start to finish, every single thing we requested was carried out practically to perfection. Any phone calls I made in the run-up were answered can courteously and professionally, and were always actioned to my satisfaction. As we got closer to the day, Lynne was in constant communication and took care of every single last detail. It was clear she was more than experienced and highly qualified in her field. Nothing was ever a problem for Lynne and she was patient, understanding and available at all times. She understood all the arrangements we needed to make to ensure the ten children at our wedding were safe and happy at all times. On the day itself, Joe, Ana and Margaret played an absolute blinder. We had so many compliments about the staff who served the meal. The attention to detail and the care that each member of staff on duty that day showed was exceptional. It was carried out with a level of professionalism, service, friendliness and calm-under-pressure that I have never encountered before. The food was stunning and many of our guests told us that it was the best wedding meal they had ever had. There were no hidden costs whatsoever and zero fuss about our budget limits, costs or payments. In fact, it was a very affordable way to have a mid-size wedding in one of Dublin’s most beautifully set restaurants, and the interior is so impressive. We were very happy with the value for money and the quality of absolutely every corner of Bon Appetit. I could go on and on. After the meal we had drinks downstairs in the gorgeously intimate Pink Bar, which comfortably accommodated two musicians and our first dance. It was truly magical to be so satisfied by the performance of this establishment on such an important occasion. Thank you all doc...
