CHE PASTA! Pasta Bar — Restaurant in Rome

Don't let what looks like "fast food pasta" fool you. What you don't get is a view of the Piazza Navona at a tourist trap restaurant. What you do get is simple, fresh pastas at fair prices in a quieter street. I took a gamble to see what the reviews are talking about, and I'm glad I did.

I ordered the carbonara and while it's not as strong as some of the others I've tried, it's still full of flavour that might be more suitable to those who aren't used to real Roman carbonara (ie. heavy/salty flavours from the pecorino Romano and guanciale). The guanciale is crisped up nicely. The pasta noodles are freshly made, and the softness and chewiness will be preferred by those who don't like al dente pasta. When you travel, especially in a tourist area, you always go into places where there are lots of people. And often fell into tourist traps.

This place is around the corner on a quiet street. Doesn't look like a restaurant but more like a fast food place and sure enough. That's how Google categorize it.

Tagliolini marinara - Wow! The texture of the pasta is as perfect as every fancy restaurants we have been in Italy and the sauce may seems simple but quite flavorful, tomatoes and chili. Excellent!

Tonnarelli Carbonara with pork cheek - The pork cheek was done wonderfully. Crispy and a bit salty and the pasta was done perfectly again.

There might (just barely) be tastier carbonara in Rome, but there is none as convenient as here. If you want to taste the classic Roman pasta dishes without the hassle of a stuffy trattoria, this place is perfect.

There is a little space inside to eat, and two small tables outside. If it's busy, you can even sit in the nearby square. Also, don't bother with the extra-large option, the regular size is perfect for one hungry person.

Considering it's only a few minutes walk from the Pantheon, the prices are very reasonable - when I went, it was €7.90 for a big plate of pasta, and drinks were...
