Like all chefs would say: simplicité dish isn't the easiest to cook and master. That's exactly what failed in the restaurant in a way.
Seasoning on the cream for the langoustines ravioles, though Ok-ish, but the crustacĂ© body were not the biggest nor cooked to perfection. But the espuma was too liquid also. And saltâŠ. OMG slat Helene Darroze would scream!
Also the gourmandise is necessary. When you serve a dish of monkfish at 28 EUR, you expect a little bit more than a small piece of fish and a kind of baba ganouch, though tasty, but not even to remember. That equivalent in Paris 11 would be 24 EUR and insanely creative and Bistronomie.
Seems that the value for money here is on the menu, more than the âa la carteâ which shouldn't be the case for an established business like this. In summary not giving the top mark, but not a massive bad of 3
A 4 to encourage, as the dish were not bad, but like the overall decor and cleaning, there is a bit of âlaisser allerâ which put the place in the category of âold generationâ place that needs a serious revamp. So much potential, just need Philippe Etchebest to turn up to help the team.
Clean up, become more gourmand, change the style, add some decorations on the plates and also make sure you're managing the wine list. More choice and an up to date list. I understand shortages on 600 domains available, I don't understand on circa 20.
Overall, ok ISH
In summary it's time to step back and rethink with the young generation especially in the biggest touristic city hub of the...
Read moreWe went to Le Bistrot on the recommendation of our hotel and we were not disappointed. The staff were extremely welcoming even though the restaurant was packed and we had made a last minute booking. All the food looked amazing. We didnât have starters as we arrived late at 9.00pm so dove straight into mains. I and one of our party shared the Cote De Boeuf which our waitress showed us before cooking and the clever chef managed to cook very rare for me and medium rare for my companion. Absolutely delicious with just the right amount of seasoning. Please beware that this is not a lean cut so donât order if you are expecting fillet steak because thatâs not the texture you get. However I knew what I was ordering and it was delicious. Also served with fab crispy chips and salad. My other companions had the monkfish with multicoloured cherry tomatoes and a shellfish sauce which not only looked beautiful but tasted better and the lamb which I would say had been slow cooked with sweetbreads- yummy. Desert was also fantastic featuring homemade ice cream and sorbet. The cheeseboard of local cheeses presented with hazelnuts and honey was another masterpiece. To top it all off the staff were amazing in both the explanations of the food and the fact that we were absolutely and a long way the last ones in the restaurant but they did not hurry us i the slightest. All I all a great way to start our holiday and I would highly...
Read moreGiving this place 1 star because it's impossible to give 0 stars! Just returned from this awful place, which calls itself a restaurant. My wife and I spent there exactly 45 minutes. During that time we received just a glass of warm! Vouvray. We tried to order our meal few times, and that was the worse experience we had in our 12 days' trip in France. The waitresses, teenage girls, ignored our numerous attempts to call to their attention, despite the fact that our table was just near the kitchen, where they all passed every few seconds. Eventually one waitress came to us. I asked her just one question - what is American style sause (first choice in starters). She gave us long answer in French, while she handed us menu in English 20 or so minutes ago. And when we shrugged shoulders, she said - o'k, wait 5 minutes! Then she went on to the kitchen and continued working without even looking in our direction. After about 10 more minutes of such impoliteness, disrespect and plain rudeness towards us we left. Now, the word of caution to all tourists or just people who don't speak French: DO NOT EVEN TRY THIS PLACE!! Unless you look to...
