Don’s Burger — Restaurant in Sarawak

Sad to give this low rating to one of my fav go to places back then. Last time I went to Dons was probably 5-6 years ago. Most of the times I just get them through foodpanda.

The food is average and it’s quite costly. I ordered Krispy monyeng, beef monyeng and messy fries. Two of them is a set meal and we picked honey lemon (RM5) and iced lemon (RM4) as our drinks thinking it was included in the set meal price since the waitress said “u can order any drinks on the menu” without notifying us there’s an additional RM7 cost for drinks outside of the one they’re offering. Our total was RM68.

The service is below average. The waitress is very impatient. And since it has been awhile since I last visited Dons, I’m not familiar with the menus. I’m not sure about other people’s experience but there was no physical menu (in a form of sheet or book) for me to refer to during my visit. I can only refer to the screen at the counter. In which they have to change upon further inquiry. It’s very troublesome. For me and for the waitress since she’s rushing so much. I guess the place is understaffed.

The food on the other hand, for the krispy monyeng, it’s nice. Crispy enough to live up to its name. The vegetables inside are crispy and fresh as well. But the beef monyeng, is a disappointment. The patty is hard to chew it makes my gum swollen. Not to mention I was served a lukewarm patty. Sad. The messy fries is ok2.

The ambience, honestly is not to my liking. The zikr is too loud, I have to speak louder to get the waitress to hear my order. At one point, she picked up the remote which had me thinking she was going to lower the volume but she was just changing the menu slides. But I guess she need the zikr to calm her impatient heart. And I’m guessing the 2nd floor is not fully renovated hence the low lighting.

Overall, 3/5 is all I can give. I hope to see improvement next time I visit. But I can’t say I’ll be visiting...

Thank you for taking the time to respond to my 1-star rating only review. It was not actually your establishment that I wanted to review, rather the branch operating out of Pujut 9. Those were the most disgusting burgers I've had in my life.

That was 6 months ago.

Coincidentally, I visited this branch last week (for the first time). While everything was certainly better than my initial 1-star rating, it lacks a few things that make it a 5-star experience, namely the metal poll left outside the main entrance that represents a major safety hazard, and the average tasting burgers. The fries are mostly the end bits that look like they were from the bottom of the pack.

I would still say it was a decent experience as there's a good vibe, nice and clean layout, large tables, and the presentation of the food is decent. Price is good and I'd be keen to come back to try the rice dishes and what looks to be pretty good coffee, but definitely not the burgers. Admittedly, I have yet to find a really good burger in Miri.

Sorry again for the initial low rating which I have now updated to reflect this branch. However, still a lot of room for improvement...

Been wanting to come over since years especially now that i settled down in peninsular. But, finally had the thoughts again recently when my fiance visited Miri together and mentioned about trying Don's burger out of many 😂 so we went there for a late night snack.

We ordered Krispy Monyeng set with Don's classics as Ala carte because we both don't usually eat that much. We also had lemon tea along with those. Burgers were quite tasty and juicy, my fiance enjoyed it as well. Admit it wasn't the best dine of course but the food was not bad unless u expect a 5 star restaurants meals. Ambience was great, peace and quiet (prolly cause it was ald 9pm idk) and a good place to chit and chat. I also find the place fairly hygienic considering a fast food outlet.

Total price we spent was around 36ringgit for two person. Honestly not so pricy, but we didn't order much in the first place but portion is standard. Overall, I like the original ideas and menus. Makes me proud as a Mirian to bring friends, colleagues to eat good food here. Giving 4 stars cause I think service could improve, the meal set can have more potential as well rather than just...
