Waku Waku is a Japanese restaurant that I first visited mid August 2022 and had an amazing experience. The sashimi was fresh and full of flavor, with highlights being the Truffle Sushi, Chawanmushi, and 'Black Origin' Wagyu Ribeye BMS 8-9. The Wakuwaku Chef's choice was also a highlight, which I ordered on two occasions and felt was worth it. The customer service was the biggest highlight of my experience, where I was unable to finish my sake and they kept it for me for my next visit. I did come back a few days later and they kept their promise, which was fantastic. However, on my most recent visit, I noticed that the restaurant had been extended but was disappointed to see that they had not introduced any new menu items as promised. Despite this, the Tonkatsu pork with an extra bowl of rice did not disappoint and was still delicious. Unfortunately, the lack of attention to detail, such as not topping up water, was a big minus for me as attentiveness is an important factor in my dining experience. In conclusion, for a first-timer, I would highly recommend visiting Waku Waku. Although the lack of new menu items and the decrease in attention to detail may affect the overall dining experience, their food are still amazing and worth a visit.

A hidden Japanese restaurant located off the main street, offering an authentic taste while serving quality food. The lunch set is pretty good value in my option. Service could have been better. The staff wasn’t rude or unfriendly, or terrible enough that I wouldn’t revisit. It’s just that they seemed rather disorientated when it came to placing our meals onto the table. Given that our lunch sets were served on trays, they could have come over to the table to make room for our food or have another staff member to help shift things around. The waiter was juggling the trays trying to make it fit and placed them on uneven surfaces. We had babies and older kids, so some of our hands were preoccupied. It’s quite anxious to see (we helped where we could of course). Would have been great if the tempura had a bit of variety even though it was just two pieces. The salad was missing the colour of a small tomato. Otherwise it would have been perfect!!! 🤗 Just a little feedback on areas for improvement.

Beautiful meal at this newly opened modern Japanese restaurant. Highly recommended. We enjoyed a selection of entres - Wagyu tartare (my fav, tender marinated raw beef), prawn croquette (2nd fav, good bite and crunchy), Chawanmushi egg custard with beef cheek (excellent flavour), tempura oyster mushroom and pickled cucumber. For the main we had the sirloin (my fav, nicely cooked as medium rare served with black garlic puree and a dab of wasabi), the grilled Jikabiyaki lamb shoulder, and the pork tonkatsu served with curry sauce to pour over (very crunchy). Dessert we share the matcha tart with matcha ice cream and white choc, and the black sesame cake with black sesame crisps and plum (such a good flavour if you like sesame). They also have a short list of exclusive sake, I got the yuzu sake which is so tasty and aromatic. It is served overfilling in a wooden box - a very interesting experience. A small restaurant so booking advised.

Very disappointed experience at Wakuwaku. We booked a table and were the first group in the restaurant for dinner. But after one hour, we still didn’t have our main. We ordered 3 appetizers and 3 mains. The appetizers arrived quickly after order, but we wait for another 45 mins sitting there just for the main. Although we told them that we need to leave by 630 for a live show, they main courses still no sign of coming before we leave the restaurant. Don’t get me wrong, the food is amazing, at least those we had are very impressive. Not sure about the main courses as they never showed up. We have a friend over in Auckland that day who really likes Japanese foods, but he had to leave with disappointment too. As we have 3-6 groups of people came after we set down, but they got the foods and everything before we left the restaurant. Not sure what happened in the Kitchen, but definitely not the experience we expected from a “fancy”...
