During our six week stay in Russell, this gorgeous restaurant, tucked away down a little lane, was a regular stop for my wife and I.
The host, Mohid, is charming, attentive and always wears an easy going smile.
Most importantly, for me, the tandoori and the curry was among the best I’ve eaten.
Over the course of about 12 meals during our stay, my wife and I tried a lot of the menu. We tended to start with the generous mixed platter and get a curry and naan for our main. While I tended to stick to lamb vindaloo my wife tried different dishes. She loved every dish (and she isn’t shy about telling me if a dish misses the mark).
We consistently heard other visitors chatter between themselves about how good the food was and on one occasion were pleased to see a couple go out of their way to praise the quality of the food. In that case, the California couple stressed that they were spoiled by excellent Indian restaurants at their home and ranked their meal among the best they had enjoyed.
If you’ve tried Greens Indian be sure to try Mohid’s restaurant. Our British driver from the airport told us that Greens is excellent. But we tried a Green’s Indian restaurant in another town and were disappointed it wasn’t as good as Greens at Russell.
We also tried most other places in Russell, but we always came back to Mohid’s restaurant. In tourist towns, service staff can sometimes treats tourists as annoying ATMs. Mohid was the opposite. From our first visit he treated us like a local.
Mohid’s Greens Indian was a highlight of our stay in beautiful Russell. If you stop in be sure to introduce yourself to Mohid. He’s a really nice guy who is dedicated to making sure that you have a wonderful dining experience.
I don’t leave many reviews but Mohid’s team at Greens was so good I had to set aside some time to praise the quality of the service and food.
Well done, Mohid and the cooking team. Thank you for always making us feel welcome and I wish you...
Read moreUnsure how this place has so many 5 star reviews as my experience wasn’t 5 star worthy… Had the Lamb Rogan Josh and the Lamb Saagwala both medium. The rogan josh was very watery and lacked richness in flavour but hit you with a wave of heat the same was with the saag. I felt that the lack of flavour was being masked by the heat of the dish. The saag was thicker but lacked depth of flavour also. Both of the dishes were lamb and in both curries was a significant amount of meat. The lamb was cooked well however the fat hadn’t been trimmed off and often I would bite into an unpleasant fatty piece of lamb. I would say the naan breads and the onion bhaji were great. Service was good and prices are nothing unexpected in Russell. I just feel from what I tried the curries I tried weren’t amazing or anything to write home about however if you’re in Russell and you’re wanting and Indian food fix there isn’t another option and Greens in russell...
Read moreFeel very conflicted about this review, hence the rating. The food was exceptional. Some of the best and tastiest Indian food we have eaten in a long time. I commend it wholeheartedly. BUT… The dining experience was a real let down, starting with having to ask the staff to clean bird droppings off the chairs of the table that we were shown to. Many of the outside table chairs are very worn out and tired. The bathroom has a changing table which had many dead insects on it, and the rest of the bathroom felt tired and dirty. The waiting staff were slapdash and not well trained at all. For me, despite the amazing tastiness of the food, the hygiene in the public areas raise too many doubts about the hygiene standards in the kitchen to consider a return. Which is...
