Donut King The Palms (Christchurch) — Restaurant in Christchurch

Last week watched as one of the staff was working extremely hard making coffees while the other blatantly ignored clients and was “cleaning”. He was asked numerous times by the barista for help to which he eventually rolled his eyes and came to serve people. He had the same gloves on he had been using to “clean”, do dishes with, touch the till and counters, and then to my utmost disgust also used to grab the donuts. When he finally got to me and I asked if he could use tongs for mine he again rolled his eyes and proceeded to grab tongs that were just sitting on the counter. Today (over a week after bringing it to their attention) I watched as the guy was handling all the donuts without any gloves on this time - touching surfaces and his clothing as he dunked the donuts in icing.

I’ve worked in hospitality for 18 years. I’ve been responsible for food safety plans. I’ve seen the amount of harmful bacteria that this leads to.

I emailed the owner - who I’m now starting to think is the same person that’s doing this - and got no response. So a heads up: The donuts might be tasty but the hygiene...

I came on the 19th before lunch. The lady who was running the shop was useless first of as I went to order she answered her phone and had a conversation for a few minutes. Then as she was making my donuts she was chatting to people who were leaning over the barriers they clearly weren't other workers just her friends. Then they kept going in and out of the kitchen hair down and not washing hands she then asked her friend I assume to help this girl Neva washed her hands. After I got my donuts I decided I wanted a American hot dog I wanted cheese and bacon on it she then told me that they don't put bacon on the hotdogs even tho the sign said they do. While making my hotdog she continued talking to these people who kept going in and out of the kitchen she took so long to make the hot dog and 3 customers were qued up waiting to order but she was to busy talking to her friends to serve they then walked away. Over all what a terrible rude Experience definitely won't...

Great quality fresh donuts. They are sweet, soft absolutely divine. The custard-filled donuts are one of my absolute favorites. However, a cheeky cinnamon roll is a good choice too. There are plenty of different items to choose from. The food is reasonably priced. Parking is available as it's located in The Palms Mall. There is seating available to eat in the mall and take-away boxes for those who wish to eat at home.
