Starting from the nasty service at the counter to a dessert that I could not even eat one bite - this place is horrible. Unfortunately, it was the only place that had a table in Te Anau so we were somewhat forced to eat there. Don’t make the same mistake we did. Just go to the grocery store and get some pies and a bagged salad kit and a bottle of wine and you will be much happier. It took an hour to get one dry pizza and one tasteless penne pasta. We asked the cranky woman at the counter a few basic questions about the food and she snapped at us several times. We got a couple glasses of wine and each one contained about 2 to 3 ounces …courtesy of Mrs. Cranky. Quite the stingy pour for the price. The vegan crumb cake was inedible- dry and tasteless - it seemed like she reached into the leftover shelf of week-old desserts because it was NOT the item we saw in the dessert case. I really have a policy of not writing bad reviews, especially for small local places - but I feel like I need to warn people not to eat in this place. We just left and there’s an entire restaurant of people waiting for their food, still shellshocked from being yelled at at the counter by...
Read moreIf I could give negative stars for this place I would. My partner and I both were excited to find vegan and vegetarian options and ordered the potato and leek soup off their vegan menu, along with a pizza and salad. The salad and pizza were not bad but apparently complimenting the chef only results in a grunt instead of a “thank you”. At this point we realized they didn’t know what customer service was. After we got to the bottom of the soup bowl we realized it had pork bits in it, I felt absolutely disgusted and sick especially because I haven’t eaten meat in years. My partner went to the cashier to ask why there was pork in our “vegan” soup, the rude chef lady said it was onion without even looking at the plate he brought to show her. The worst part was that the meat had sunk to the bottom meaning that it was old meat, likely used in a previous broth that the “chef” reused to make her next “vegan” concoction. If you are vegan or vegetarian AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. You have a better chance of foraging vegan food at local...
Read moreHad a really unpleasant experience at this place :(. I found the older German lady to be exceptionally rude after greeting her with a smile and asking her how her day was. I asked politely “please may I have a middle slice and not an end slice”, referring to the banana cake that I was about to buy. A simple request considering there were lots of middle slices, and surely first come first serve? The lady was bitter the point where I should have walked out and not spent money in her establishment. I’d much rather her say “unfortunately I’m unable to guarantee that” or a polite “no, sorry” rather than make snide comments about how I will get what I am given? And how every customer wants a middle slice and a “cake has corners”. I didn’t feel like any of these sarcastic and unkind comments back to my polite request was necessary and in fact really took me back. Receiving this as customer service in hospitality?! 🤯 Being polite and professional and down to earth will ensure your customers come back again and again. Please don’t...
