DingDang Cafe — Restaurant in North Island

I had a very disappointing experience here and will not go back.

After ordering a coffee and paying $18, I was made to wait while the staff served other customers who ordered after me. When I politely raised this, I was ignored and dismissed by the owner, who said, “this is not a big deal.”

I didn’t receive my coffee. I requested a refund which hasn't been given to me as yet.

With their dismissive attitude and rude service, best to avoid this place!

Update (Nov 2025): I’ve seen the owner’s reply below, which unfortunately contains several inaccuracies. – I never claimed the $18 was for one coffee, but the delay in service and dismissive attitude were the real issue. – The refund did not show in my account when I posted this review. – The tone of this response further proves my point about rudeness and lack of accountability.

We’ve been searching for authentic (but not over-priced) pizza in the Petone / Lower Hutt area for the last couple of years. Unfortunately the search has so far only resulted in cheap but average or great but expensive options… UNTIL NOW. DingDang Cafe managed to produce the rarity of a delicious pizza at a very good price. The salami pizza definitely doesn’t disappoint, with a well-cooked bubbly base and deliciously fresh toppings. The only downside is the tiny location. I really appreciated the friendly service but when it’s just one person making the pizza, making the coffee and serving the delicious-looking cabinet food, I feel guilty making one person do...

(Add) I had an unlucky day. However, I think opening hours are a promise to customers and belong to service. Just by looking at the photos, I think your food will be great. That's why I visited your store.

When I arrived at 8:40 on Wednesday, it was still closed and I waited to see if it would open at 9:00. I saw the staff going to work around 9 o'clock. I waited until 9:20 to prepare for opening, but the door was locked and there was no staff in sight. While I was waiting, I could see several people leaving after checking that the door was closed.
