This place has a serious problem with undercooking their food, especially the chicken and rice.
The only reason this isn't 1* is because the guy serving us was super nice and the plating is nice. But it's all superficial. This was really bad Indo food. Like, the worst I've ever had. We came in not long after they opened for dinner and were seated no problem. The place was absolutely foggy with incense burning, and the smell was very pungent.
We ordered familiar dishes for us and... I feel as if they pre-prepare the food and just microwave it when an order comes in? I don't know any other explanation for what happened.
The satays had good flavour and were presented beautifully, but were barely warm. The beef were good. The chicken were not. Kind of junk meat. The fact they weren't hot really made it difficult to enjoy chicken.
The nasi lemak was a bit pathetic. You get like two spoonfuls of curry in a tiny ramekin. The chicken meat was garbage. Mostly fat and it was undercooked. The sambal was good. But that's about it. The rice was incredibly undercooked AND cold.
The nasi kerabu was a more full plate, but the chicken was very dry and lacked seasoning. The blue rice seemed like it was fine on the first few bites, but as it got to the centre, it was COLD and so undercooked it was chewy/crunchy. And i don't mean just lukewarm, I mean cold like it just came from the fridge.
We had to complain about both dishes and asked for fresh, cooked rice. The server tried to dodge by asking us if we want to explain it to the chef/owner. No. That is your job! When we insisted that we wanted him to make us freshly cooked rice, we got told it was all freshly cooked. No, it obviously isn't or else it wouldn't taste like leftover rice, nor would it be literally cold. Very arrogant from the chef. You're talking to other Asians. And I know what refrigerated leftover rice is like.
They returned the rice shortly after. It was not fresh. This time they definitely just microwaved the same rice from the plate. And it was STILL COLD AND UNDERCOOKED. And the undercooked chicken was still undercooked.
I gave up. I just didn't eat it. There is obviously no point in complaining because they don't care about customers, and take no pride in their food.
Prawn crackers are bad. They just tasted like regular stale rice crackers.
Prices for "main" dishes are too high for such bad quality food. Poor value. (Satay costs the same as nasi lemak.)
Despite the fact we didn't even come close to finishing the food, and we were clearly very dissatisfied with the meal and experience, they offered no discount on the bill. We left very annoyed and very hungry.
Abysmal food. Even worse attitude from the...
Read moreKrakow truly is culinary capital of Europe. And now with addition of this wonderful little gem. First of all - please do not be put off by the appearance of the building: Kazimierz is still a little gritty and the young lovely couple running Batik have no influence on colour or finish of external elevation. The beauty is definitely within - both the food and warmth of the owners. On a 8 days visit to Krakow in November 23 we tried this food first time. REVELATION. Menu is concise - already a hint that food will be great. And it is. Full of flavour, colourful, tasty - every morsel on a basket belongs there and flavors just keep layering. We eat like kings - we tried very much all mains. Yep, on a 8 day trip we went to Batik twice... AND we managed a trip through all mains.... Outstanding experience. We will be back. We wish the owners all the best and great karma for all kindness and feeding us couple of best meals ever. 🙏 Updated in October 2024. Renamed restaurant, Keladi, is firmly on my list to visit while in Krakow. In March 2024 I tried Mie Goreng. REVELATION. A dish that feels like life is giving one a hug. The balance of flavour is out of this planet. So good I eat it twice in 2 days. Unfortunately I don't live in Krakow - I spoke about Mie Goreng to whoever listens to me since. We went back to Keladi in October 2024. Any guess what I chose? MIE GORENG. Just as amazing and addictive as I remember it. On top of it new manager of the restaurant is kindest and most honest restaurateur - brilliant recommendations and honest about just how much to order to don't overorder. This true gem on culinary...

Batik has been around for only a few months. It is run by two a couple young folks from Indonesia and Malaysia. They are passionate and eager to bring delicious Indonesian and Malaysian food to Krakow.
And it shows. The food is…. Incredible. Bursting with flavor and full of attention to detail. The menu is full of their family’s recipes. It is beautifully presented, but eating here feels like you’re getting treated to a home-cooked meal in a family’s home.
I’ve been here a few times. The chicken rendang was juicy and rich. You could tell it had been marinating slowly over the course of hours. The sambal tempeh tasted fresh, aromatic, and yummy. Just enough spice to let the flavor of the sambal shine and complement the tempeh. The roti dessert was delightful! Fun and textured and sweet. I also tried the chicken satay (24-hours marinated, super tender), the nasi goreng (fried rice, starchy and aromatic), the soto ayam, and the laksa -- both soups, both super flavorful...
