For honesty's sake I am not an expert when it comes to French food because most items that are considered haute cuisine (snails, rabbit, seafood, frog legs, venison etc.) I do not eat.
There were a few tempting starters but the only main dish that is edible to me on the menu is the "butcher's steak" and so I ordered it.
The cut used in this dish is suitable for a goulash or a szolet but not a steak (it was rubbery).
The french fries are delicious and they are plentiful.
I ordered a Chlodnik soup as a starter.
It came without pepper and as I carry fresh chilli with me I substituted the lack of black pepper with fresh green chilli.
The soup had a healthy dose of fresh dill and parsley but it was too salty.
The goat cheese (if indeed that is what it was) was also very salty.
The quantity of goat cheese in the soup was double what I expected it to be so this is clearly a case of quantity over quality.
I ate it because when travelling I make sure to eat healthy vegetables such as beetroot at least thrice a week but I felt the cheese was of very low quality and was over salted to conceal this fact.
The French red wine was fine but the waiter did not ask me if I want it with my steak (most people, myself included drink wine with the main course).
He brought the wine with the small free appetiser which along with the french fries was the highlight of the meal
As it is July and I was sitting outside the red wine was inevitably warmer than optimal by the time the steak arrived.
I asked to pick a dessert from the menu and the waiter brought me the main menu but not the seasonal menu which as I remember also had one dessert (alas I couldn't remember what it was so instead of asking the clearly indifferent waiter to fetch me the seasonal menu I stuck with creme brulee).
The latter was tasty but this type of dessert can be found in steakhouses near petrol stations all over France (a sweet pause between changing michelin...
Read moreIt suppose to be romantic dinner with wife and 2 kids. While entering the restaurant we asked waiter lady if they have child seat and she said they do and will bring it. Once we were sat in front on our table, a waiter with french accent promised to bring child seat too. When during order waiter was awfully responding to me. On the begging I thought this was a joke or that is his sense of humor, but no. He just unpleasantly served us. He brought starters but no child chair. He never asked if it was delicious if we like it or if everything was good. We asked for a separate plate for the baby and we did not receive it either. Hoverer for a gents couple which was seated close to us he was more pleasant and shared much more his attention. After the main dish the waiter did not ask if we wanted anything more (we wanted) and needed to ask him for his attention to make an order for dessert. Child chair was brought after 4th ask. Food was ok. We had higher expectations towards food, after reading all those positive opinions and after our experience we made an opinion there are much nicer places without Micheline recommendations in Krakow where you can get similar or better food, but definitely better service. The interesting part, at the end while paying the bill waiter Highlighted Service is not included...
Read moreI dont understand this place. The food is okay, but nothing special for Kraków, which has so many great alternatives. The prices are very high, and they charge an additional 12,5 service fee on top of it. The waiters are usually very nice, accommodating, and well meaning, but they seem to be hopelessly understaffed and/or disorganised, and so they can't keep up with their promises and keep losing orders. The service is also remarkably slow: twice now I have waited for more than 20 minutes just to get the menu, and close to an hour to get something to drink. On entering this time (New years Eve), people were leaving and warning us that they had waited for an hour without getting served. Other people have praised the wine selection. That might be so, but you would do best to order from your own knowledge and experience as the "set wine menu" seems to be code language for "whatever bottle is open at the moment", not matching tge menu at all. I have been curious about this place as apparently it used to be great, but now I've lost patience. There are so many better places to eat in Kraków, there is no reason to...
