El Mexicano — Restaurant in Albufeira

One star is too generous… If you enjoy being treated like a nuisance rather than a customer, this is your place.

From the moment we arrived, the experience was a train wreck of nonsense rules enforced with zero logic. We weren’t allowed to join a table with the friends we came with, apparently because “those are the rules.” No explanation, just a smug shrug and a fake smile. Meanwhile, the restaurant was empty.

A bit later, after 2 tacos, they told us than the kitchen was closed… while food kept coming out for other tables. So either we were selectively banned from eating, or someone’s lying. Spoiler: it’s both.

The staff clearly hated being there as much as we did. Multiple waiters openly complained about the manager Marta, who apparently rules the place like a petty dictator. You could practically feel the dread in the air every time someone mentioned her name.

This wasn’t just bad service, it was hostile, confusing, and borderline insulting. There are way too many good places in this city to waste your time or money here (same if you come for free from your hotel...

El Mexicano in Albufeira is a truly unique experience — if you’re into portion control and love an element of mystery in your dinner. We were a group of six, ready to feast, but the tiny bowl of nachos we received could have been mistaken for an amuse-bouche... for one! But hey, sharing is caring, right?

The menu is straightforward, with only six items, so naturally, we ordered one of everything. The highlight was the beef tacos — if by ‘highlight,’ you mean biting into beef that was seemingly prepared last week and stored in a tanning bed. The burritos? More rice than flavour, perfect if you’ve been craving a burrito stuffed with... mostly rice.

We sampled everything, stayed just long enough to set a personal record for shortest dinner ever (20 minutes, including grimacing), and promptly headed off to another restaurant to actually eat.
