Churrasqueira Novo Sabor — Restaurant in Alcobaça

I kept reading reviews saying this was the best chicken ever. I figured this was hyperbole, and indeed when we ate here the first time, I discovered it was only the second best chicken I’ve ever had in my life. My wife, who is a professional chef, makes a fried chicken that slightly beats this.

This is, however, definitely the best roast chicken I’ve ever had, and we’ve hiked down here at least three times in the past 10 days to buy some. In fact, we’re getting ready to call them now to reserve a chicken for tonight.

It really is that good.

They’re also great at speaking English (I think one of the employees is a native English speaker).

A full chicken costs just under €10 (€5 for a half). We usually also get a large side of French fries, which are very good. It’s an absolute bargain for a very filling meal.

In the small beach town of Sao Martinho do Porto, this churrasqueira is a diamond in the rough. After being greeted by friendly staff, putting in an order is easy and the chef is efficient at bringing out your fresh food, which comes out hot and steamy. I eagerly took my chicken and found a nice spot on one of the tables outside in the shade. Absolutely fantastic experience at Churrasqueria Novo Sabor!

The staff here are wonderful - warm, welcoming, and attentive. A special shoutout to Sam for his outstanding hospitality and for making us feel so at home.

This was honestly the best chicken I’ve ever had, hands down. The skin is incredibly savoury and perfectly crispy, while the meat stays unbelievably juicy. We also tried the smashed burgers, and they were out of this world - full of flavour and cooked to perfection.
