Restaurante Familia — Restaurant in Coimbra

Restaurante Familia is tucked away in the heart of Coimbra. It is one of Coimbra’s hidden gems. While it doesn’t have the history of places like Ze Manuel dos Ossos it does share the familia charm.

I was warmly greeted and shown a table. The inside is warm and inviting. It is a nice romantic spot without the chaos.

If you want a great affordable meal in a quiet atmosphere you should stop in.

I tried the Kiev Chicken. It was tender and moist. It wasn’t overly breaded but had the perfect crunch in my mouth. Mashed potatoes are not common in Portugal. These were fantastic and with the right amount of butter.

For desert I had the chocolate cake with fresh caramell on the side. The caramel was soft and silky smooth. The cake was moist and very chocolatey.

We had the pleasure of dining at Familia, a Ukrainian restaurant located in downtown Baixa, and it was an unforgettable experience. We tried their new dish, Solyanka soup, which instantly transported us back to our childhood. It was incredibly flavorful and comforting.

The borscht was exceptional as well. We also enjoyed the Varenyky with potatoes and mushrooms, which were incredibly tender and served with sour cream, making them absolutely delicious. The Kyiv-style chicken cutlet was another highlight, perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor.

To top it all off, we indulged in the Kyiv cake, which was a delightful surprise and the perfect ending to our meal.

We spent Valentine’s weekend visiting Coimbra and had dinner one night at this charming Ukrainian restaurant. So happy we did! Everything was perfect and food was delicious! I had the Chicken Kyiv and my wife had the Deruny (Potato Pancakes). We shared the chocolate cake that the owner recommended for dessert. He told us that his mother made this cake for his birthday every year as he grew up. So good! Oh an be sure to try the Sangria made with sparkling wine! You won’t regret it!
