Restaurante O Alcaide — Restaurant in Lagos

I’m deeply disappointed with my recent visit to this restaurant. I ordered the tuna dish, and within 10 minutes of leaving this place, I developed a severe allergic reaction — my skin turned red, I felt extremely hot.

I’ve eaten tuna many times before and never experienced this kind of reaction. It was clear to me that the fish had not been properly stored or handled, which is not only unprofessional but also dangerous.

Food safety should be a top priority for any restaurant, especially when serving seafood. I hope the management takes this seriously and reviews their storage and food safety protocols to ensure this doesn’t happen to anyone else.

A very average experience, unfortunately. You will notice that there are very few Portuguese reviews of this restaurant, and on the evening we visited there were no Portuguese eating there, and after the starters arrived we understood why. The garlic prawns were very oversalted. The tomato salad was small and underwhelming. The wine list was lazy with very little thought going into the quality. The rack of lamb was better but the overall experience was lackluster. Just an old fashioned Portuguese restaurant in a nice part of town, but with very little passion put into the offering. Having read the reviews I expected to be giving a 4 or 5 star review. I didn't find anything special here. Let's say ordinary. We had pre booked but still waited 50 minutes for our starter. We saw other tables that were there before us receive both starters and main courses before our starters arrived. Very unusual.
