We are always looking for new places to eat in Portugal. We ate here on a Friday evening with arrival time around 7:15 p.m. and there was plenty of seating. Staff speaks English but we were also with Portuguese people. There were only about 12 people including us at the restaurant. It took a long time to get our Irish coffees. Maybe they had to go to Ireland to get them? Service was sorely mediocre. I can understand if it's busy, but we had 3 different servers come to our table. With 12 clients total seated in the restaurant, service should have been better. We had to ask for multiple refills ect.. and no one came to the table see if all was well. We ordered entrees and drinks and then everyone just disappeared, no one came back to take our main dinner order. My husband was served the wrong mug of beer. He ordered an Estrella something (gold colored beer) and received a Superbock dark. The food was a nothing over the top special for the prices. Some restaurants here have an obsession with pressing their hamburgers into perfect circles, and that's what these burgers represented. Most of my fries were short size. Half of the length of what McDonald's would serve. I thought this place would be a little better for the money, we spent about 35 euros a person. The music was loud making conversation a bit difficult at first and after a while outright annoying. By the time we left the restaurant was packed, so they do a decent amount of business on a Friday night. It must be that people need somewhere to go, but we won't be going back. It took us 22 minutes to find a place to park so it wasn't worth the money or the parking stress. The parking garage was full. If we want burgers we'll go to Hell Bull in Pombal or to d' Rossio Hamburgueria in Rio Maior. Both places make great hamburgers that aren't compressed into perfect little fiber board circles. I've been to Gordon Ramsay burger/steak, in my used to be, home city of Las Vegas and I can say I truly appreciate these two hamburger restaurants. Restaurants need to stop squashing the "character" out of...
Read moreThere's always an Irish pub wherever you go and Leiria city is no exception as it has one too. Lovely decorated inside and felt like I was back home in the UK in one of my favourite local pubs. The staff are very friendly, welcoming and attentive and made me feel immediately comfortable and at home.. Filipe/Philip at the bar spoke English and even though I didn't have a pint of Guinness, the Portuguese Stout equivalent was totally delicious and perfectly served. The food menu of hamburgers and pub food looked really good so might have something to eat when next here again. Had a Portuguese big black coffee as their espresso's are just too small for me. A huge Portuguese double shot of the lovely Jameson's Irish whisky certainly added to my great experience of this Irish pub here in Leiria, central Portugal. Cheers Filipe and will be back again next time...
Read moreIm from Boston, Massachusetts, USA, where there are actually more Irish than in Ireland, and there are loads of Irish restaurants and pubs---of which my wife and i have to many of them. Sorry, outside of the name and the beer, the atmosphere was not "pub" like. Where is the bar, with bar seating and a bartender? Where was the shepherds pie, guiness lamb stew? Corn beef and cabbage? I ordered the Chilli and Nachos, which consisted of hamburger and dark beans with nachos. The hamburger did not really have a chilli flavor. Rather bland. And I found it expensive for 8.00 euros. Expensive for Portuguese standards. Seeing that it was just a snack. I asked the waitress for some Piri Piri sauce in a tiny tin saucer. Literally about a table spoon's worth. I couldn't believe that I was charged 1.50 euros. It costs more than a beer or a...
