Beach Bar and Grill — Restaurant in Ponta Delgada

I don't understand why this restaurant gets such a high rating. Perhaps our opinion on this is so different from others because the person who served us was not friendly and the food disappointed us.

We sat down in places on the side with the name of the restaurant on it. After fifteen minutes, no employee came to take our order. That's why I asked an employee. She replied grumpy that they don't serve there and that I just had to find another place right in front of the restaurant. We did this and it still took a long time before we were helped. The lady who helped us all the time (a blonde woman around 50 years old) reacted bluntly all the time. We ordered fries and a pork and drink sandwich, but after half an hour we didn't receive anything. Only when we asked, she looked at us with just no rolling eyes and snorted that the food was coming. The food was not tasty and the meat was tough. The other staff were friendly and hardworking. But the mutual atmosphere didn't feel nice. It was a noise with many families, have the feeling day tourists are not...

I was very disappointed in my experience here. The menu seemed good but the food was far from it. I originally ordered the T-Bone steak, about 15-20 minutes later after our order the waitress came out to tell me they didn’t have a T-bone and offered me the prime rib. I ordered the prime rib in the same medium I asked for the T-bone. About 20 minutes later I finally got my prime rib along the rest of our meal after about 45+ minutes of ordering. The prime rib was completely undercooked and totally raw in the center. I was extremely disappointed. I sent the meal back to be re-cooked and I might as well have just cancelled my order. If it wasn’t undercooked the meal would’ve been more fat than meat. The food was under cooked, the staff could’ve cared less and there was no service whatsoever. Very disappointed in the food and service and don’t plan on going back whatsoever. I’d rate 0/10 if it was possible. Would not recommend this...

Food was average. The burger was fine, but the beef wasn’t very good, and surprisingly there was no fish on the menu – strange for a beach bar.

The real issue was with the bill. For three people with a few starters, main dishes, and one drink each, the total should have been around €80. Instead, they tried to charge us more than €140. The waiter who served us disappeared, the person at the counter claimed not to speak English, and a senior staff member became aggressive, insisting we just pay. Only after I pushed back did the cashier suddenly “remember” English and bring us the correct bill, which was almost half of the original amount. They called it a mistake, but it felt very suspicious and left a very bad impression.

On top of that, the rudest person seemed to be a non-local, speaking native British English, who shouted at us: “You shall pay what you ate.” Extremely unprofessional – this man should never be working with...
