A Margem — Restaurant in Vila Nova de Gaia

This is a place where you can get a traditional portuguese lunch or dinner while finding yourself in an elegant environment contemplating a view of the river. Prices are almost all above average found in the area, as an example, my salmon cost 12€ here while other restaurants in Afurada offer it for 10€. Of course, you pay these extra 2-3€ to enjoy a nicer inside of the restaurant. Food was okay, it wasn't any better or worse compared to other places with traditional food. I didn't enjoy the service as much, because when we got here the staff wasn't showing much attention to us and the whole time they acted as if they were scared to be "too friendly". Maybe it's because of how full this place gets, all the tables were occupied. So it's better to make a reservation first or come very early. Nonetheless, there were plenty of servers out there and still, we waited a little too...

Traditional Portuguese restaurant but a touch more upmarket, overlooking the Marina. Waiters were very friendly and helpful. Baby friendly with a clean and well maintained baby changing stand in the Ladies Bathroom. And a kids menu available which was well priced and sized. There was a mixture of clientèle with groups, families and couples dining. I shared the monkfish and prawn 2 person platter which was served with a multitude of vegetables and rice. The portion was very generous. But pescatarians beware. What was not mentioned on the menu was the Portuguese traditional sausage that was served on the platter also. I don't eat meat but I was happy to eat the fish and veg that the meat had not touched. For dessert I had the passion fruit cheesecake which was slightly dry in consistency and I wouldn't...

Went with colleges for the Christmas dinner, but I didn’t eat.

There was an issue this day, apparently the main chef quit that day 😱🤷‍♀️

The dinner started at 20:00 but the food only arrived at 22:30, apparently due to the chef.

Not one single person said the food was great, some complained a bit, like being cold. For sure it was not much food. The desserts were big, but again no great compliments.

The staff was very friendly. And the drinks kept on coming. The menu was expensive 28€ but had sommersby included, which is not a common thing.
