came with my family after seeing rave reviews online, but overall, food and service were very much below expectations. every dish looked very different from how it is pictured in the menu and the promotional videos screened at the entrance (see pictures for comparison).

for $37.80, the poached seabass in spicy broth did not come with a whole fish head, as pictured in the menu. the soup also did not come with beansprouts, as mentioned by our server when we asked her about the ingredients. instead, it came with underwhelming slices of fish and a meagre amount of vegetables. it was also served quite late.

the horfun was not bad, but i felt it was nothing special other than the crispy pieces. prawn and truffle taste was barely perceptible.

the rose pastry looked so different from its picture, i thought they served the wrong dish. tasted good, like tau sar piah, but really small, and $6.9 for 3 pieces (aka 6-9 bites). the server also claimed we could order first, and request for it to be served after our meal. however it was mistakenly served FIRST and served cold. the server asked if we wanted to eat it now or have it served again after our meal. waited a long time for a knife that did not come. asked and waited again for it to be cut and reheated. in the end we ate it between the rice and hot dishes.

the hotplate tofu in garlic sauce was 6-8 small pieces for $17.90. not bad, but not as good as elsewhere. tofu served before rice. this and the mushroom dish were quite salty.

the staff working our area were not very friendly or proactive besides one nice server. another server forgot/ignored requests multiple times, and didn’t even acknowledge when she heard/saw another staff fulfilling our requests. had to ask multiple times for a knife, to refill our tea, and to dabao leftovers.

we also came for the citibank promo, pictured below, but were told at the end that it ā€œtemporarily unavailableā€. it’s still up on the site, and only ends 31 Dec 2025. nothing mentioned in the t&cs as well about variable availability.

other reviews mentioned long wait times, but restaurant was not that busy peak hour (6-7pm) sunday, nearing mother’s day. reserved last minute, entered quite fast, quite a few empty tables around.

i am giving 2 stars because it tasted okay, but you can easily find better at a similar or lower price in westgate, jem, and IMM. dtf, soup restaurant, white restaurant, putien, dian xiao er, tim ho wan, lenu, paradise dynasty, canton paradise, tanyu - any would be better.

so disappointed. so expensive for what it is. really...

The brand specialises in Yunnan ethnic highland cuisines (é«˜åŽŸę–™ē† gao yuan liao li). This type of cooking sources and uses fresh mountain ingredients from the Yunnan Province of China, where you can discover regional cooking nuances in China. There is a wide selection of Yunnan dishes in the Yun Nans Jewel menu. With just 2 pax, we ordered 4 dishes and every dish was amazing. And I heard so much about their chicken soup, and wanted to taste if it lives up to its reputation. So obviously that was the first dish we ordered.

Steam Pot Chicken Soup ($23.90++) So apparently that’s how uniquely brewed this steam pot is, using a pressure-steaming technique for three hours on a special breed of black-feet chicken. The water found in the soup comes from the condensation of the steam alone. Prepared in a special hand-made Jianshui claypot, this dish rewards you with a clear, delicate soup with a robust and nourishing flavour. This is probably one of the best chicken soups I had in Singapore – light, flavourful, yet not greasy. You know how the chicken chunks in soup often turn out to be quite bland? The restaurant serves the soup with an additional plate of beansprouts, peppercorns and a mildly-spicy sauce. Pick out the chicken pieces and mix it with the sauce, almost like you are having a dish of mala chicken. One soup dish – two ways of eating, totally worth it.

Crispy duck with dried chillies (S$15.90++) Unlike the usual deboned or even boned chicken, this dish is made using fresh and deboned duck. It is then deep-fried until crispy before stirfried with chillies and crispy broad beans. Very flavourful & unique as the texture of duck vs chicken is very different. Worth a try. Poached Pork Collar with Pickled Chilli ($16.90++) A porky stew with potato slivers that are crunchy (so probably a quick fry like the Sichuanese åœŸč±†äø or potato floss), mochi-like potato starch noodles and pickled mustard leaves (kiam cai). The robust and spicy dish is really comforting and rich without being overly powering.

Dragon chives with Yunnan beancurd skin (S$12.90++) One of my favourite vegetables but not everyone is used to this dish. However, my good friend & I loved it so it was a no brainer. Very fresh & well cooked. This vegetable could be easily overcooked & have dried out parts, but not for Yun Nan's.

San Qi Hua / Panax Notoginseng Flower Tea (S$3++) This tea is for the healthy, and has a herbal bitter earthy flavour that is mildly off-putting. Supposed to aid the body detoxify.

Costly, but would definitely bring friends &...

First visit to this restaurant for a birthday celebration.

When I sat down, realized that the cutlery was a bit dirty... Like there's a mild black stain on the porcelain spoon and the waiter is willing to help us to change. Fair enough.

Food wise is okay. I only like the steam pot chicken soup as the main star dish. Soup is 굓 (concentrated), clear and chicken is soft and tender.

The popular recommendation on Lychee Prawn Ball honestly I agree with the latest reviewers it was rather OVERHYPED. Why? My guess is that the lychee shape exterior is just for presentation purposes rather than expecting lychee flavoured. Inside is just juicy prawns okay that's the good part and paired with a dollop of mayonnaise. Feels like missing the sweetness and sourness stuff we are expecting from the our back of our minds...

What makes my experience more worst is that when waiter served us 2 plate of fried rice to us when we didn't order and refusing to get refunded but eventually cleared with manager and okay to be refunded. Waiter is rather stern on this policy that food cannot be refunded which is ridiculous when we haven't touched anything and just placed on the table.

PSA: Guess next time when doing online order have to screenshot cause sometimes online order cannot see the order summary which is a pitfall for customer side.

Bad experience and food refund SHOULD BE acceptable when customers haven't touch...

Costly, but would definitely bring friends & family to try it.
