Springleaf has always been better known for Springleaf Prata Place. But when wandering off the opposite direction, one shall find Meera’s Curry Banana Leaf Restaurant, a seemingly low profile establishment as compared to the better known Springleaf Prata Place.
I ordered Maggie Goreng, a Roti Prata and Teh Tarik for my dinner here. The crispness of the Roti Prata doesn’t seem to be much of what they are going for here, but it does require a little effort to pull apart this fluffy dough. Hence, it may not appeal to fans of the crispy Roti Prata that Springleaf Prata Place is known for.
Similar to the Mamak eateries in Malaysia, the Roti Prata is served with three different sauces, Fish Curry, Sambal and a sauce which I presumed is Dhal Curry. The highlight for me would have been the Sambal which tasted largely sweet.
Given its accessibility by train, Meera’s Curry Banana Leaf Restaurant is an eatery I shall consider if I am craving for Roti Prata with Sambal.
Tip: To get there by train, take Exit 3 when alighting from Springleaf...
Read moreIf you're looking for an old school pratashop, the kind you used to go to after school, this is it. Rustic, tasty, great service. Got 1 plain prata, 1 egg prata, 1 vadai, 1 fried ball and an iced teh tarik.
Pratas were great; plain was crispy and fluffy, egg was soft, both not too oily. Don't expect Springleaf crispiness for the plain but that's probably not why you're here anyway. Vadai is on the softer side, lentil batter and not the overly fried kind trending nowadays; fragrant. Fried ball was a miss for me, I expected a banana ball but was greeted by a dough ball dipped in rose syrup. Insides were still undercooked too and a little gummy. Teh tarik was fantastic, the tea is so fragrant and the milk is nice and light from the pulls. Put some ice and you have a good day...
Read moreUnassuming place that serves decent roti prata. What's interesting is that the prata is served with 2 different curries as well as sambal ikan bilis. One curry is the regular type served with prata; it's not bad, but watered down. The second curry is loaded with spices, not the chilli or pepper kind of spice, more like cardamom and turmeric, etc. It's interesting cos at the other places I've tried that serves 2 curries, one would usually be curry and the other would be dahl. This is my first visit to Meera's; and judging from the rather extensive menu, I suspect that their prata, while decent enough, is not their specialty. I'm sure some of their dishes must be great, or they wouldn't have more than one branch. If I'm in the area again, I may return and try out some...
