This could jolly well be my 1st ever bad review as I rarely ever leave any bad reviews as I prefer to let time run its course whether a F&B establishment can survive the harsh critics of other diners.
I saw some pretty good reviews (and I seriously wonder how they got the 4 stars review even) so decided to bring my mom for lunch here as its very convenient, just right next to Spring Leaf mrt (exit 2)
Came here during a weekday lunch (31 Jan 2023) , few tables occupied (most finishing) should be lunchtime crowd.
We ordered the usuals in a dimsum setting since its our first time
Sliced fish porridge Taste: minus - 5 / 5 Comments: Gave minus 5 out of 5 as the sliced fish used was not fresh at all, kind of taste rotten. Porridge consistency was ok but extremely salty probabl to mask the frozen fish gone bad.
Har kow Taste: 2/ 5 Comment: This was the only saving grace. I shall leave it to your imagination (taste bud)
Siew mai Taste: minus - 5 / 5 Comment: Another minus 5 item as the pork was so smelly i almost spat it out. I doubt even my dogs would want to eat it. Pork not fresh at all
Steamed Chives Dumplings Taste: 2/5 Comment: Texture was chewy, not too bad.
Fried mango with prawn roll Taste: 1/ 5 Comment: so so, prawns abit off. No wonder there were flies flying around our dishes. Should be due to the fact of the vile seafood smells
Ee fu noodles Taste: 2/ 5 Comment: Ok if you are really starving. No wok hei taste. Lucky it wasn't salty like the rest of the dishes.
Beancurd roll Taste: minus - 5 / 5 Comment: Usually this item is very hard to go wrong. This one was so salty until the cows came home with high blood pressure.
Braised chicken feet Taste: 1 / 5 Comment: Again too salty. HBP people advised to run far away from this establishment.
Others: Service: My key grouse was the "service". At 2pm, even though there were 2 tables having lunch, a Chinese lady was mopping the restaurant floor with very strong bleach (the fumes of the bleach was so strong that me and mother couldnt breathe, had to put on our masks) and she was getting nearer and nearer to our table and almost mopping underneath our table and banging the chairs very noisily as she mopped. Being a small enclosed space, the noise and fumes was getting too much.
I checked with the staff (albeit in a nice courteous manner) if they are closing otherwise why is she mopping the restaurant with such strong bleach when people are still dining (it was meant to be a subtle hint to the staff to stop whatever she was doing.) She said they are not closing and continued with the mopping and chairs banging . I got peeved from the fumes and noise, my food not even halfway finished, in fact my food are still 80% unfinished and asked to pack the remaining food! I went to cashier and to pay and leave as the bleach fumes and noise was too overpowering.
During payment, I reprimanded the service staff who was mopping (she went to the cashier) and apologised as i was asking who is the person in charge or the boss of the shop and to provide me the number.
There were further altercations where the other diner (60s Uncle) actually stood up and confronted me to go out of the Restaurant (seemingly wanting to pick a fight). Likely he has shares in the restaurant or hes the boss hiding behind the facade of a customer. I may be wrong but his behaviour was definitely not that of a customer
I shall not elaborate more on the rest of the altercations with this customer over me reprimanding the China service staff.
Definitely AVOID THIS PLACE. JUST GO TO any of the shops or coffeeshop down the stretch rather than eat bleach fumes laden food. Will report this to the relevant authorities of the cleaning methods of this shop.
Overall rating. Minus 5 out of 5 as Google doesnt have...
Read moreCame here on a Friday night around 7pm and I thought this place only sells dimsum and tzechar based on the outside appearance of the shop. Little did I know this place was more famous for its Beef Hor Fun!!!! 😄 though it was almost a full house the wait for food to come was really quick!
Ordered a few dishes including the mains and here is my take on the dishes! Water is not complimentary, and they only take Cash, Paylah or Nets.
🍜 BEEF HOR FUN ($7.50). I was shook how flavourful the gravy was. Flavoured using fermented salted black beans, the black pepper sauce really enhances the super tender beef slices that gives this carby main a huge oomph. 👌 The amount of beef slices are so generous! I rate: 5/5 🌟
🍜 STIR FRIED BEEF HOR FUN ($8). Surprised to see it very much like 新洲米粉 type of tzechar style. The added touch of a zesty calamansi squeeze really helped with this oily dish. Great wok hei and beef slices are also super tender and generous. I rate: 5/5 🌟
🦆ROASTED DUCK CHEE CHEONG FUN ($7.50). For this price, i got 3 thick rice rolls filled with thinly julienned duck breast.. it was dry and had a powdery mouth feel. Perhaps go for the conventional shrimp rice rolls would be better... I rate: 0/5 🌟
🍖 SIEW MAI ($4.50) Has 4 pieces of siew mai with mushrooms inside. Good mouthfeel but meat lack of depth. I rate: 3/5 🌟
🥕 PAN FRIED CARROT CAKE ($4.50). Has a really nice texture of starchiness and shreds of radish. I still can taste the dried shrimps and cured meat inside. Though a tad bit oily, but not bad! I rate: 4/5 🌟
🍜 FATTY CHAR SIEW ($14). Saw lots of people ordering and I missed the chance of getting the Roasted mix. Meat was tough, cold and practically had no fat in it when the menu says 肥叉烧... maybe I just got the unlucky batch this time. Sauce is pretty ok. I...
Read moreI love to eat dim sum and this is one of the dim sum restaurant that really impressive!!
Everything we have ordered are so yummy!
Beef horfun, beef slice is smooth but a little tough, BUT the wok hei on the hor fun is excellent!! The fragrance is on point and not overwhelming.
Prawn dumplings, unlike many out there, this prawn dumplings has the nice freshness taste of prawn, the dumplings skin texture is also just nice. Thickness and softness is just nice.
Crystal chive dumplings, if u love chive u got to order this!! The dumpling is very moist almost soupy. And fragrance chive is really good and balance. Excellent.
Bean curd roll with shrimp and pork. This one is the best fried bean curds ever had. The fragrance of soy bean is sooooo good that I have enjoyed the lingering soy bean fragrance in my mouth.... yummmmmy.
Pan fried carrot cake, one of the best old school honest carrot cake. Love the crisps on the outside and softness in the inside. And you will see a lot of reddish slice hanging while you are eating. That's the reason I said honest.. filled with radish.
The meat dishes, Kong bah bao and char siew meat are well marinated and with a hint of char fragrance.. should be because its cook with charcoal.
Deep friend mango and shrimp roll is one of my favourite dish. It is nice here, the sesame touch is an excellent idea. But I wish the mango can be of thicker slice so as to create a much lighter, balanced and enjoyable experience to this dish. It's a 5/10 for me for this dish. Mainly because the rest of the items are so nice that I feel this could have been better. Hopefully the chef can see this post and make the mango thicker.
Hope you guys go and try out this restaurant!!!
Really worthy every...
