I am a regular of Mythos at Design Quarter, Johannesburg and typically don’t have any issues with their food. Today, Friday 01 March 2024, I ordered the grilled kinglip which is listed as served with rice and vegetables, as well as lemon sauce on the UberEats menu. I also added a small Greek salad as a side. The cost was R299,00. At the outset, I have to state that I had no problem with the price, but expected that I would get the fish, rice, vegetables and the side salad that I had ordered. That was NOT the case. Instead I received an undercooked fillet of kinglip which was very rubbery, and a small Greek side salad. What happened next is what floored me. I called Mythos Design Quarter to express my dissatisfaction about a) the undercooked fish and b) the absence of the rice and vegetables. Whoever the gent is (strong, coarse voice over the phone) that answered should DEFINITELY NOT be dealing with customer complaints.
He went on to tell me how this is an UberEats problem, how they have had NUMEROUS customers complain yet they still keep the menu item on their profile. I painstakingly tried to make him understand that while I may appreciate them having issues with UberEats, mine was about raising the issue with them, and them correcting what is in their control - me, a disgruntled customer.
This gent simple didn’t get that all they had to do was to correct the mistake they (and/or UberEats) have in their hands, which is me, the unhappy customer. He could’ve sent another Uber with the darn rice and veggies, he could have offered a discount the next time I dine with them. Look, he could’ve even said dessert on the house next time you’re here. But NO, he continued to let me know how this was UberEat’s problem.
To say I am disappointed by how they handled this is a gross understatement. They need to seriously think about who deals with customer complaints, how the complaints are handled and to have a basket of ways to immediately rectify how they resolve complaints. To lose a customer over an insignificant portion of rice and vegetables that probably costs them next to nothing (economies of scale) is the part that floors me.

Read moreIn the past, we've loved visiting the Mythos Greek restaurant inside Montecasino. With Covid, they closed down. Nikos, another Greek restaurant is now there ... but it's just not the same.
Yesterday on our way back from Eastgate, we decided to try the Mythos in Design Quarter. It was around 16h30. My golly, they have such interesting specials! Tuesdays (after 5pm) you can choose 3 starter plates for R159. On a Monday, you'll get R100 off their sharing platters. Check their Sunday prawn special!
We really wanted a meze platter to share - what a pity it was Tuesday!!!! But at R399 it was worth it!!!! I had a Greek coffee first and Hein a glass of crisp white wine. Manager Quentin had a lovely chat with us.
Love the 'crochet' umbrellas and the artwork on the walls inside. The fake olive trees are gorgeous!!!!!!! I actually touched them to see if they're real or fake. Going to the bathroom - quite a few steps to the next level, but love the decor.
Our platter arrived. Looked amazing!!! The prawns were mine - the heads were super juice and the rest just perfect!!!! Dipped them in the white taramasalata dip (all mine, since Hein really doesn't like too fishy stuff). Calamari tubes tender and delicious!
The skewers were fab, beef strips salty and saucy! Pita breads like plumb pillows .... and the lamb meatballs - to die for!!!!!!!!!!!!! The chicken livers - oh my - I wanted to just dunk my head into that sauce ..... absolutely fantastic! Livers juicy and tender!
Stuffed but happy - we...
Read moreMy family loves the Mythos in Design quarter, and come by often the atmosphere is perfect, lively with people but never too loud, great for a lunch or dinner with friends and family. I especially love coming in summer with the subtle mist wafting over, keeping us cool.
The food is great, especially if you like meze. I personally am victim to being in love with the Filetto Mythos, utter heaven, a bit on the pricey side but worth every cent, great for a treat.
Now obviously the food is good but, it's the service that keeps us coming back. It might be just us, I unashamedly believe my family is more awesome than all others, however I'm sure in reality they treat all their customers as good friends who they've missed. The managers especially go out of their way to get to know regulars and make them feel welcome, I know of 2 waiters who know to just bring my parents favorite wine as we walk over.
The down side to all this is that they are quite popular especially on weekends and becoming full, so I strongly recommend booking in advance. You can walk around the design quarter while you wait if you didn't, but who wants to do that.
Okay, well at this point, it obvious I'm ever so slightly biased in my opinion of this Mythos but it's deserved believe me, go...
