I went to the restaurant last night with my fiancé and a couple of friends. First of, we went to have the Pizza special, our waiter Mr S (won't share his name publicly) informs us there is no special. I informed him that we had the special last week. Couple of minutes later he comes back and informs us there is a special after all. After we sat down, he informs us the kitchen closes at 8PM (website shows the restaurant closes at "late" and Google shows they are open till 10PM. The waiter then went on to rush us on to order our food. Last rounds were also called at 08:30/09:00PM, my friend then asks the waiter, why the bar and kitchen closes so early. The waiter ignores my friend flat and just walks away with an attitude. After awhile the waiter rushes to us to ask if he can bring us our bill. This was just before or after 9PM. We were at that stage still busy with our food and drinks. He brings us the bill and a few minutes later the restaurants starts switching off the lights above our table. I had to ask the waiter to switch the lights back on because we couldn't even read the bill in the dark. After paying the bill, the waiter comes back and snaps the mints (that were basically on my friends lap) from her and walks away. Although the food was great, the service from our waiter was terrible. Please don't advertise your restaurant as "Open Till Late" if you guys close before...
Read moreI've been going here for years, since they opened their doors, and have generally always had a great experience.
However, lately, their service and offerings have really started to decline, and they are becoming very deceitful with their menu and charges. It's evident they are losing their charm and attractiveness, the place is mostly empty unless there is sport on.
The food and waiters are still as good as always, but now you deceivingly pay for everything separately (e.g. sides, which used to be included) and they don't disclose this upfront, only when you get your bill.
Also, they are becoming rather expensive compared to other places. e.g. R30 a can of coke is just utter ridiculousness and ripping people off. Not such great value for money anymore. Inflation aside, they are constantly making sneaky changes to the menu to catch customers out.
To be honest, the last few times I've been there haven't been as great as before. I will, therefore, not be going there anymore, as I end up not enjoying it more often...
Read moreIve been at this Rock@88 multiple times. Sometimes very quiet, sometimes extremely busy. They always host events like American day or Rugby days etc. For example, American day, they had massive Braai or BBQ, plus a face painter who also come on some other event days. Mind you, the face painter is absolutely free for all. Their food, compared to Rock@88 Lynnwood, is exceptionally better. Ive had quite a few tastings like Chicken schnitzel with Mushroom sauce, their rock@88 schnitzel with bacon ontop, their pizza's which is build your own pizza of 5 toppings. Their skilpadtjies and Rump steak with potato bake. They have a good selection of choices for food which focus on a 'braai' type style. They have plenty of seating around, mostly 'outdoor', when it's cold they usually add fireplaces next to random tables to add some heat and atmosphere. Generally their staff are good and fast with service, but there are times that our table have been neglected. This have been communicated to management and they resolved it...
