This "health food" store is located on a busy corner in Sea Point. I found the place hot & stuffy inside. I had been sent there to collect an order. It was set to be ready at 15:00 for a 16:00 collection, however when I got there at 15:50 only half the order was ready. They were still busy making the rest, and they still had to package it all. After waiting half an hour, they finally had it all ready.
Although the concept of packing the food in paper, recyclable bags is a good one. When you are handed 5 of these bags (without handles), it's quite difficult to figure out how to carry this little lot.
After delivering it to my client, they rejected ⅓ as it wasn't packaged correctly, and some items had escaped their containers. It's rather disappointing for the price paid.
Items are rather pricey and definitely not value for money. My colleagues and I got to taste some of the food that was rejected - most of it either had no distinctive taste or tasted like cardboard. The only item that tasted the way we think it's supposed to taste was the hand-made Knickers bar ..... however, it is definitely not value for money. It's the size of a standard Snickers bar, but for R59.
This is the 2nd time I have visited this store to do collections, and I have been disappointed both times.
If you are the average 'man in the street', then this place is not for you. However, if you are a rich health fanatic without any sense of taste (food or otherwise), then this place is just for you.
I do not recommend this place, as there are many health shops around that serve a better selection of health food for better quality,...
Read moreShocked and outraged with the experience my partner and I had at this deceptive bluff of a health food restaurant. We sat down excited to try out this new restaurant that everyone has been raving about and ordered our breakfast. When they eventually brought us out cacao, mesquite granola jar it looked delicious... Until, after a bite or two I remarked that it tasted as though there was alcohol in it. My partner, who hasn't drunk alcohol for 5 years agreed. We we took another bite to make sure and I was actually horrified at how strong the alcoholic aroma and taste was. When I breathed out I could feel the fumes on my breath! It tasted as though half the jar was filled with Nagmusiek (chocolate liqueur)! There was nothing listed on the menus that contained alcohol.
I complained to the staff and they were hesitant to acknowledge our concern. Eventually the manager returned to admit that there was alcohol in our breakfast!
I'm not talking just a dash of alcohol based vanilla essence. I mean, there was a lot of alcohol in there.
The manager didn't even apologise. No one offered us something else from the menu, no one came to ask if we'd like the bill. We were completely ignored. Eventually I asked what was happening.. to no avail, and we left.
I am sickened that someone could masquerade their restaurant as a RAW (which it most certainly is not, they've even redefined what raw is to them on their menu) health food restaurant. I'd be quite interested to know what other hidden ingredients are in their so-called...
Read moreI absolutely love scheckters For their great coffee and HOMEMADE nut milk (almond milk) it was a very regular mission of mine to grab my daily coffee from scheckters, their homemade almond milk was thick, frothy and super delicious making their coffee the best coffee I have had In seapoint and would choose scheckters over Lexis any day!!! Scheckters also does not rip their customers off for a coffee.. other places are charging ridiculous prices for a cup of coffee specially when trying to be healthy and choose nut milk option..not scheckters their prices are reasonable for what you receive. Because of their homemade almond milk.. they were uniquely better than any other café in Atlantic seaboard. very disappointed to see that they are now too buying boxed oat milk.. at least its the gluten free option but still! The coffee just is not the same without their special and unique twist of homemade almond milk. I really hope they find a way to still continue making their coffee with homemade almond milk.. or even homemade oat milk if almond milk is to expensive.. but the boxed nut milk makes the coffee taste unpleasant specially the almond breeze “barista blend” which scheckters thankfully don’t use atleast..however we lease bring back your homemade almond milk and try cut costs in other ways🙏 All in all scheckters has the best vegan treats! Gluten free is an absolute must for health...
