Sometimes, the best discoveries are right under your nose. For some time now, Bar Costa on Joaquin Costa street has been that intriguing spot I've passed countless times here in Barcelona, always admiring its immaculate decor and promising myself I'd eventually step inside. Well, the stars finally aligned, and let me tell you, it was a treat worth waiting for. From the moment we walked in, the welcome felt genuinely warm. We were greeted, presumably, by the owner, and the service throughout the evening was nothing short of prompt and friendly. Bar Costa specializes in small dishes, and for two of us, four plates hit the sweet spot. In fact, one dish was so utterly sublime, we couldn't resist ordering it twice: the seared scallops on smashed potatoes with hollandaise sauce. Seriously, it was pure, unadulterated divine. And to wash it all down? Their Costa Sangria was exactly to our liking – refreshing and perfectly balanced. Usually, dessert is an afterthought for me, but with such a positive vibe flowing, we decided to indulge. The white chocolate cake with maracuja sauce was a delightfully delicious finale to an already stellar meal. Beyond the food, the ambiance at Bar Costa is a masterpiece in itself. The warmth of the decor, with its walls draped in velvet curtains, creates an incredibly intimate setting. En principio, quiero mencionar que mis evaluaciones son siempre honestas y reflejan mi confianza en los lugares que visito. Lamentablemente, mi experiencia en este bar fue pésima, y quiero compartirla en detalle.

Habíamos reservado una mesa para las 19:00. Por un inconveniente con el tránsito, no pudimos llegar a tiempo, por lo que llamé al bar para informarles que llegaríamos con 20 minutos de retraso. Me aseguraron que no habría problema. Al llegar, había tres mesas vacías, una con seis personas y otra con tres, pero nos asignaron una mesa pequeña para dos.

El camarero, con una actitud poco amable, nos advirtió que debíamos liberar la mesa a las 23:00 porque comenzaba el segundo turno. Aunque entendí la lógica del aviso, la manera en que lo comunicó fue innecesariamente brusca.

Cuando llegó la camarera, le pedimos un vino y dos tapas, aclarando que más tarde pediríamos un plato principal para compartir. Sin embargo, nos trajeron todo junto, sin respetar el orden. Además, una de las tapas tenía un sabor amargo, como si hubiese sido frita en aceite quemado.

Después de comer, la camarera nos preguntó dos veces si íbamos a pedir postre. Respondimos que sí, pero que lo haríamos más tarde. A partir de ese momento, dejó de atendernos. Pasaron unos 30 minutos sin que nadie se acercara, y finalmente tuve que llamar al bar por teléfono para pedir el postre.

Cuando apareció el camarero, hicimos el pedido, pero poco después llegó la camarera, visiblemente molesta, reclamando por qué habíamos llamado. Nos acusó de faltarle el respeto, insistiendo en que debíamos haber dejado la mesa a las 23:00. Incluso nos dirigió insultos, lo que considero completamente inaceptable, solo había 2 mesas ocupadas y 4 libres.

Solicité hablar con el dueño, pero la camarera me aseguró que no estaba ni había encargado presente. Ante su actitud, le dije que no pagaría en ese momento y que regresaría al día siguiente para hablar con el responsable. Fue entonces cuando apareció una persona que reconocí como el dueño, ya que habíamos visitado este lugar anteriormente y me dijo que no era el dueño, sino casi el dueño.

Cuando intenté explicarle la situación, me interrumpió diciendo que escucharía también la versión de la camarera, la cual claramente no coincidía con los hechos. A pesar de todo, pagué los casi 50 euros de la cuenta y me retiré.

Definitivamente, no volveremos a este lugar y no lo recomiendo a nadie.

Went here on our last night in Barcelona. Unforgettable experience. The staff was fantastic. Chef really put a lot of care into his menu. Everything was simple but felt elegant and well put together. Nothing felt too unfamiliar and unapproachable even if you are not a culinarily adventurous. Your are guaranteed to find something you like. The scallops (although small) were some of the best I have had; buttery, soft, and melt in your mouth. The beef was also perfectly cooked and spiced as to not lose the flavor of the meat while holding a level of complexity with the flavor profile.
