Machete — Restaurant in Barcelona

They have taco Tuesday where tacos are 1€ so we decided to go check them out. Sat down at 8:56 and quickly filled out the paper with our order at 9:03 the waitress came over to take our order but announced that taco Tuesday was over, we were annoyed but fair enough so we gave her our order. Our friend that was lagging behind joined and we told him taco Tuesday was over so we would pay full price, the waitress came back at 9:15 to take our order and we told her that we had added his order to our paper. She came back shortly after to ask us to fill out the order again because she had thrown it away. Which was weird and annoying.

I was there with my dog and we had to ask 5 separate times for water which they assured they would bring but they only brought it as we were leaving. My dog was behaving very well and other customers were coming over asking to pet him and such, one of them noticed my dog nodding off and falling asleep so when he curled up on the floor he got his cushion as he got up and put it on the floor for my dog who immediately curled up on it and fell asleep. Not long after a waitress that had not been upstairs before ran up the stairs to yell at me saying the cushion was for customers only and that I was rude for giving it to my dog. Now these were not fancy or clean cushions - I guarantee they don’t get washed often and probably had grosser things on them based on many of the clients. Many of the lights were broken, chairs and table were sticky and the room itself was VERY hot.

As far as the food goes the fillings were allright but the tortillas are from a packet. They are not fresh and barely warmed up, not very tasty at all.

There are much nicer, friendlier, and tastier Mexican spots in Barcelona. I don’t recomend nor would...

The tacos are good, and great value on Tuesdays. Staff are hit or miss….sometimes they’re great and nice….other times you can end up with your food not showing up, and them trying to charge you for it. I didn’t think of it much the first time it happened but the second time it happened it was clear they try to take advantage of non-native speakers. Depending on the staff they also treat English speakers very differently.

Twice I’ve shown up now and not received the entirety of my order. The most recent visit I asked for my order four times. One person in my party finished eating their entire meal while others are left waiting for an hour to then learn it is not coming. If you try to argue it, they yell at you. They mess up, cannot take responsibility, and then will make up every excuse possible “why did you not tell us sooner?” (We did many times) “how do you know someone didn’t eat it, we know we sent it out, you guys ate it and now saying it didn’t arrive?” ( I know what I ordered, it never came, I ate nothing, does that not say enough?)

Utterly rude and unprofessional. Never coming back. This time its two strikes not three, but that’s how bad the second strike was.

Come here if you’re native in Spanish, my Spanish friends were treated well. One server even came to my friend and said they’re the only Spanish person so they only want to talk to them- this was right at the beginning. (We speak Spanish and most C1/2 but that did not seem to matter). All other nationalities present, even Portuguese were treated like scum of the earth.

1/5 experience on my side. The restaurant design and food taste definitely lived up to the hype, but unfortunately the customer service just did not. I'm not normally one to complain but this set out a new low and almost questioned if I was being pranked or not. We started with a few tacos that we quickly finished and 10minutes later added 7 more tacos to the list that ended up taking 40 minutes to get arrived to the table after 2 reminders. We had to soon leave after receiving them and the waitress by accident gave me 2 more tacos which i didnt pay attention to at the time because we had to leave. We take the food downstairs for takeaway and pay up. Then the blonde waitress with glasses mentions that she accidentally gave me 2 tacos of another table and wants them back. I'm like sure i didnt pay for it but I did touch them are you sure? She was like yes and took them out my takeaway box which I found very disqusting and she ended up even taking one or two tacos what i later noticed. She then ended it off by blaming me for not speaking up saying its not mine. I was not in the mood to ruin the night for my girlfriend so I thanked tthe waitress and left.
