Rüsterei - Where Culinary Excellence Meets Industrial Chic
Location: Kalanderplatz 6. 8045 Zürich @Sihlcity
So, you are like me and you've been roaming around Sihlcity for years, from grocery runs to cinema dates, but somehow, you've never set foot in Rüsterei? Or it's your first time in Zurich and you are looking for a spot to have a fantastic experience? This place is nothing short of incredible.
Geographically speaking, Rüsterei is a dream. Situated at the beginning of the city, it's a breeze to reach, whether you're coming from the outskirts or the heart of Zürich. Plus, there's ample parking in the nearby park deck, and the Saalsporthalle train station is right at your doorstep.
Let's talk about the interior design first. Picture this: an industrial-style haven, with raw materials like brick and metal creating a vibe that's equal parts rugged and refined. Rüsterei's interior design is industrial-contemporary, boasting open spaces, modern furnishings, and lighting choices that set the perfect ambience.
Now, onto the food. We ordered the ribeye with potato wedges and asparagus, and let me tell you, it was a culinary masterpiece. Each bite was perfection, with the meat cooked to just the right temperature. The grill here is no joke – it's where the magic happens.
Last but for sure not least, let's talk about the service. Our waitress, Natascha, was an absolute gem. Attentive, quick, and knowledgeable about the menu and wine list, she made us feel right at home from the moment we walked in. Professional yet easygoing, Natascha's vibe was just what we needed for a perfect dining experience. It was an absolute pleasure to interact with here everytime she came to our table.
In summary, Rüsterei is the whole package: stunning decor, mouthwatering food, unbeatable location, and top-notch service. So, next time you find yourself in Sihlcity, do yourself a favor and step into Rüsterei. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. It's a hidden gem waiting to be...
Read moreWe used to come here often before Covid and always had good service and food. Unfortunately, this was not the case today. We ordered one appetizer, two main courses, a side and two drinks on a Saturday afternoon when the restaurant was not busy, and our food took half an hour to arrive. Even worse, they forgot our appetizer all together. We asked the waiter and he had no clue which is fine as he wasn't the one who took the order. But I would've expected him to apologize and ask us if we would still like the appetizer (given that he brought us our main courses). Instead, he just left and provided no information. We had to get the attention of another staff member (coincidentally, the one who took our initial order) and only when we asked, we were told that our appetizer will come soon, still no apologies though. Honestly at this point, we weren't quite sure what's the purpose of the appetizer as we already have our main courses on the table. Later on when our appetizer finally came, we ordered a second drink. The second drink never arrived! We tried to get the attention of the staff a few times, but unfortunately, the three of them were just chatting behind the bar and did not look around. Finally we got our bill and told the lady that we were rather disappointed about the service - pointing out that our second drink never arrived and our appetizer was also forgotten at the start. She apologized. This was the first and only time that someone apologized. However, she was not the one to blame. She didn't take our order and she was merely bringing us our bill to pay. The manager was nowhere to be seen when we left. Forgetting an item from the order is something we can understand, but how the staff handled the situation after is unacceptable in our opinion. And forgetting our order twice really does make us question about the place. Rather unfortunate to be honest, as Rusterei holds lots of memories for us and we've always...
Read moreReview: Disappointing Experience at Rusterei's Little Hut
We wanted to dine at the actual restaurant but the small menu was a little too small and we didn't feel like paying 25 francs for some slices of seasoned cauliflower, which was sold out...
We recently visited the little hut outside Rusterei, eager to try their offerings. Unfortunately, our experience was far from satisfying.
As we queued to order our food, we noticed a commotion. A man collecting his kebab commented on the diminutive size of his meal, exclaiming, "Are you having a laugh? This thing is 16 Francs and it wouldn't feed a child." The man behind the counter explained that the kebab contained 100 grams of chicken. Given that 100 grams of chicken costs around 2 Francs at Aldi, it was baffling to think that the remaining 14 Francs were justified by the very ordinary wrap and cheap vegetables padding out the kebab. To make matters worse, the vegetables were of poor quality.
My wife ordered a falafel kebab (or wrap) and found it terrible. While the chips were nice, we didn't end up finishing them.
On a positive note, the white Ayran drink was very nice, and the Aperol Spritz, though quite small, was pleasant. The small bottle of blonde beer was okay but lacked body.
In the end, our total bill came to 61 Francs, which felt steep for the quality and portion sizes of the food we received.
Overall, our visit to Rusterei's little hut was disappointing and did not live up to our expectations.
Over the last 10 years we have gone to this restaurant several times every year, the quality isn't...
