Uetliberg-Restaurant Uto Staffel — Restaurant in Zurich

24.02.2024 Yesterday, with my little child, I attempted to visit the establishment UTO Staffel because my child was cold and needed to warm up. Upon arriving at the restaurant, the waitress informed us that there were no available seats as everything was reserved, and if we wanted to get inside, we needed to reserve a table. So, I went outside and called the restaurant. Over the phone, they told me to simply come in and find a seat. I went back inside the restaurant, but the waitress insisted that without a reservation under my name, I couldn't sit, even though there were plenty of empty tables. I then called the restaurant again to make a reservation, but once more, I was told to just come in and sit. When I explained the situation and mentioned that the waitress had told me everything was reserved, they said to wait for 10 minutes until a table freed up.

Explain to me the logic of this establishment: to get in, you apparently need a reservation, but when you call to make one, they send you back to the restaurant. There is no point for tourists in this establishment, as all you can expect is poor service, wasted time, and...

We were told in a very unfriendly way that we could not sit outside even though the weather was not bad at all. Inside was a fireplace, the staff was having troubles with it - the whole place was smoky. After beeing told for three times that we would get served soon, we saw the waitress cleaing tables. That's not how you treat your guests. We left after 10 minutes without even placing an order and went to the Uto Kulm up the hill.

Note afterwards: After the owner read my comment he replied that I do obviously not have any other hobbies than finding bad stuff in places and post them in public. This reply simply is an effrontery. Obviously the owner is not aware that these days people trust on public reviews because they want to know if it is worth going to a place they do not know yet. Dear Uto Staffel staff, if you check my profile you will see that I normally write positive comments and obviously something went pretty bad at your place. WONDERFUL evening - I can only recommend going! A beautiful little swiss mountain restaurant feeling right in Zurich city. We went with friends and enjoyed a wonderful fondue evening. We started off with a little apero of wine and beer and their cold plate of meats. We were 4 people and ordered for 2 which was perfect and DELICIOUS. We continued with a typical swiss "nussli salat" salad followed by the fondue. We ended the evening with an EXCELLENT chocolate mouse to share. Everything was EXTREMELY good. Service is also excellent, very welcoming, attentive and pleasant. To keep in mind, there is a little walk to take from the tram to the restaurant. It seems initially quite long but actually is very doable. (I would suggest that the women do NOT wear high heels.) I can only recommend the restaurant and we will be going again as we have new friends coming to visit from abroad and will take them as well.
