Horrific, abusive service, completely unprofessional and cheap behavior, spearheaded by a low caliber, obnoxious manager named Weena. If you want to have your evening ruined by Weena while paying exorbitant prices for subpar food and overpriced wine, come here. I was forced to pay 300 baht for a wine glass I accidentally broke after the waitress had crammed all of our food simultaneously onto the table. The glass of wine tipped as I was trying to serve the food. And it broke.
Weena immediately interrupted our dinner to inform me that I had to pay for the broken glass and needed to "confirm" that I would do so. Under threat of being asked to leave, presumably. It was aggressive, intrusive and not to mention unprecedented in all of my experiences in reputable, high end establishments.
When I expressed my disapproval of this gauche approach and crass demand, Weena stated that she needed to document this for "inventory" purposes only and would comp the glass of wine. I wasn't entirely sure what her point was but as the argument was ruining our dinner, and Weena refused to leave us alone, so I agreed to pay for the wine glass.
As we finished dinner, the bill came. I received two bills. One for dinner, which charged for the wine as well at 169 baht. A second bill for the broken wine glass, which cost 300 baht. I was incensed. The broken glass cost twice as much as the wine itself and more than many of the entrees on the menu. I protested to the waitress and stated how the cost was ridiculous. She took it up with Weena again, who has the business savvy and intelligence of a potato. She insisted that I must pay for the glass and that the policy was that customers must pay for anything that they break. Under this theory, she could charge whatever price she wanted for a glass, a plate, a saucer, and I would be obligated to pay for it no matter what.
These people are in the restaurant industry. Glasses get broken accidentally all the time. Which restaurants then immediately demand compensation for that, when you're in the midst of a dinner that costs over 10x the price of the glass whose price you've already inflated? What kind of high end restaurant has the manager come over to you to demand that you confirm that you are responsible for the broken wine glass and will agree to pay for it? What kind of manager interrupts your dinner with your family on its first trip to Thailand to demand that you agree to pay for a glass that was accidentally tipped over? What kind of impression does this make? When I tried explaining to Weena how unprofessional this behavior was, she repeated that all customers are required to pay for broken glasses. This woman knows nothing about customer service. There is a reason the restaurant was completely empty except for my family. Weena also cost the waitress a generous tip. We would have tipped far more than 300 baht for good service, but because Weena can't see the value in not being a pedantic jerk, not only did she ruin our evening, she incentivized us to leave this review and to encourage everyone we know to avoid this place....
Read moreThis is not your typical lunch buffet meal, as it is located on the 35th floor inside the beautiful Continent Hotel Bangkok. It's in the middle of the Asoke area, just steps from Terminal 21. This buffet features a hearty and delicious Cook To Order Menu and also features nearly 20 plus items from different cultures. You can start your meal with fresh from the oven real homemade Italian pizzas ð. (Which we tried both of them, and they were delicious). Or start with the made from scratch soups ðē. Today's choices were Chicken Coconut Soup or Mushroom Cream Soup. ( Both were outstanding ) They also had fried calamari and fried shrimp cake. The salad bar (which was so fresh as you can see from the photos) had plenty of toppings and dressings as well as 4 fresh made dishes. Todays choices were Tuna Salad, Spicy Chicken Sausage, Spicy Grilled Pork Salad, and Waldorf Salad. We tried all 4, and they were so fresh and delicious. ( The fresh Tuna Sald was unbelievable, and I had to get seconds ) The best part was the Made to Order Menu, which features a Main Course, Pasta, and Desert Section. We started with the main course. And we immediately fell in love with Medinii's ! The quality of the food is the best we've had in Bangkok. The flavor and temperature of each dish were perfect. It was an indulgent culinary adventure from one dish to the next. We tried all 8 dishes from the main course and enjoyed every bite on each dish. We enjoyed them so much that we were too full to even try any of the pasta selections. Of course, there was the Desert Section. We ordered the Chocolate Lava Cake and The Classic Tiramisu. Both left us in Desert Heaven. The meal from start to finish was truly unbelievable. It felt like we were at a 5 Star restaurant. The staff, of course, plays a huge part in any dining experience, and everyone here did an outstanding job to make our dining experience a memorable one. We want to thank Beer, Som, Oil, and the entire kitchen staff for all the hard work they put into making sure every guest leaves happy.. This was truly a great day, amazing food with outstanding service.. we can't thank you enough.. If you're looking for an exceptional buffet experience featuring top quality ingredients, exceptional flavors, and a beautiful inviting atmosphere, Medinii is a must visit for food...
Read moreThis is a tastefully designed restaurant with decent views. The looks and expensive menu awaken the expectation of a fantastic dining experience, but the expectations were not met at all: First and most importantly, the very friendly staff need substantially better training. Not only is the command of English very poor, but the way they serve (holding the water bottle by the neck when pouring water into the glasses or squeezing the bottle of sparkling wine under one arm while clearing plates by stapling them on top instead of putting them professionally on one arm like well-trained serves would do it) is very unprofessional. It also took some effort to get their attention although there were not many guests in the restaurant.
The food was also disappointing, because it arrived cold to lukewarm and had to be sent back to the kitchen for reheating. For the risotto this meant that the rice became mushy and tasted more like congee than risotto. When I pay THB480++ for a simple tomato risotto, I expect something better than this.
One other annoying thing was that staff were using a speakerphone or walkie-talkie numerous times, which disturbed the atmosphere. This does not fit in a want-to-be high-end restaurant like this.
Service and food suggest that management is not capable to run a high-end restaurant like this. The friendliness of the inexperienced and poorly trained staff does not compensate for these shortfalls. Therefore, an overall rather disappointing...
