Quality Italian restaurant in the Renaissance Hotel in Bangkok. The Insalata di La Tavola, a generously portioned organic green salad served with duck confit, was an excellent starter. Crisp arugula lightly coated with a balsamic sesame dressing with a nice balance between sweet and tangy. Duck confit seems to be a common Bangkok menu item these days, but rarely done well: over/underseasoned, meat too dry, skin chewy. La Tavola, though, gets it right. Tender, moist and fall-off-the-bone meat, skin perfectly crisped— as it should be. Paired with the salad and dressing it’s a nice combination of flavors.
Simple pappardelle pasta with sausage and mushroom is Italian comfort food at it's finest. La Tavola’s hearty Pappardelle Paesana takes that dish and elevates it with a hint of luxury, a light and delicately fragrant truffle sauce. The noodles, which I’m told they prepare fresh daily, were done right, al dente and delicious. I enjoyed this dish.
La Tavola offers a variety of pizzas (8+). I ordered the Prosciutto di Parma and the classic Margherita. Both were quite good, Neapolitan-style thin crust, charred airy edges with a nice crisp, generous portions of prosciutto. Very good straight out of the oven although a slightly thicker crust would have better held the ingredients, my only complaint.
Finished off the meal with Ops, e’Caduta, a lemon parfait presented like a work of modern art that tasted as good as it looked.
The staff did a great job, attentive and never intrusive. Overall, I’d say that La Tavola flies under the radar and is one of the more underrated Italian restaurants in a city teeming with them. The quality of ingredients, flavors, and execution are on par and in many ways surpass some of the pricier Italian establishments I’ve been to in Bangkok. This was my second visit but I’ll be...
Read more50% off on Eatigo app (not drinks & 17% tax on full price), they had a giant wine glass with our name on it. We had our own booth and the place was pretty nice. Personally, I wish the music was a bit quieter, but the live jazz was nice. The service was really good. At times it was hard to flag some staff down so maybe they should put a button on the table. They had a few dishes that were called table side where they made it at your table like Caesar salad, seafood stew, risotto in a cheese wheel & it was a nice touch. The guy making the stuff was really cool and dropped a play on words: Ahahn Wang อาหารว่าง (which means empty food, empty time/appetizers etc.) my wife thought the Caesar salad was the best she ever had in her life, the dressing was homemade at our table. The four cheese pizza was pretty good & good the next day also. The risotto with truffle oil was good too & we got tiramisu, I thought it would be cake, but it was cream on top of cookies, maybe the traditional Italian way, I wonder if they have tiramisu cake, it was really good, especially if you like espresso, but I prefer the cake. My wife wants to go back for the Caesar salad (he let her sample the dressing and she asked for more cheese, soo personal & fancy) & to order more stuff. They also gave us free appetizers, which was really cool & the focaccia bread was really good. It came with some really good creamy vegetable seasoned butter. Actually, the focaccia bread with the butter was one of my favorites. With the Eatigo 50% off food (Not drinks, tax/tip) it was reasonable, especially for an American. & the place is quite fancy for the price. You can come to Thailand...
Read moreNewly renovated Italian restaurant La Tavola, is in the Renaissance Hotel Bangkok. In a city with thousands of restaurants and a foodie’s mecca, the standards are set very high.
After many hours spent at the airport and inside the plane, I was too tired to battle the Bangkok traffic and settled for the in-house restaurant.
The decorations are that of a modern chic restaurant with alcoves for privacy. Bright, clean and elegant. There’s a live jazz combo for weekend nights. Very cool.
The menu looks interesting with chef’s recommendations, pasta and pizzas. All the dishes sounded delicious.
The duck confit salad was ok. However the plating could have been better. There was a pile of white veggies on top of the greens and duck confit. Didn’t look too good.
Beef carpaccio was ok. The thin slices of beef were overpowered by the truffle oil on top of the arugula leaves. The dish needed a more balanced taste.
Pizza fresh from the oven can’t go wrong. But there’s the same truffle oiled arugula leaves scattered on it.
I had high expectations for my pasta dish of cheese and black pepper. The classic Roman dish which is surprisingly not easy to master. Pasta was over cooked. I suspect cream sauce was used and black pepper sprinkled with it. It was lacking in texture and taste.
The restaurant was not very crowded. There was a birthday party, family dinner and romantic diners at the alcoves.
The Thai sous chef came out to chat with the guests. That was nice. And that’s the reason why the dishes were missing the mark.
This restaurant have promise if they have a...
